head canon is that Spinel is able to hypnotize gems with her eyes xd
this is my second try with this, because i felt so bad for them with first drawing (nor lapis nor spinel didn't deserve this)
so my part of this story is that when spinel is hypnotizing someone they show her true emotions, like here - she is obviously crying inside... she is such a tragic character... ahh... (and hypnotised one doesn't remember a thing later[of course...])
i though that she could order her to fight against other gems, but i don't think it would be something that she would do. Spinel would rather do everything herself (i think the fact that she was moving so much while fighting says it all) so there she just took lapis as the hostage of some sort.
i think that's all i wanted to say about this xd i'll edit it if something will come up
