I was on a family vacation in South Carolina this past summer that I was none too excited about. 17 family members in one place? Well, it turned out to be a great vacation and tension was very low.

One day when I was on the beach, I decided that, even though nobody else wanted to help me, I'd build a sandcastle. After about 15 minutes of shoveling and moving little pails of sand around, I realized that this little girl was just standing next to me, watching me work. I was really surprised and she looked so cute standing there holding her bucket in her arms that I asked her if she wanted to help. So began the friendship between Kate and I. For the rest of the week we would meet up on the beach to build little sandcastles together, and collect shells. I wanted a picture to remember her by, so on one of my last days there I snapped this photo.
