If you want the animation to play, you need to copy the thumbnail! but only if you want it to make it small.
OR
You can do it the long way (not sure how I'm going to explain it since I'm not good at explaining things hehe) after faving it, make a new journal (don't actually post it tho) and there should be a Deviantart tab on the right side which is the add media place. There you go to the favourites folder and then click on the gif, it should pop up in the info box (enable rich editing mode) Then, on the top of the page, click edit and go to html mode, copy the code and paste it on your deviantart profile!!
