Description
Incomplete model of a genie's lamp as attempted to be printed on an Ultramax 3D printer.
Lid and lamp were printed at 45% of full scale file; the lamp itself is about 4" long.
The lid turned out great, but the lamp itself didn't quite materialize; the handle wasn't about to look right and as it was going to take 30 minutes during 25 minutes of remaining library hours I aborted the print and this was the result. It's got a slight translucense and isn't quite smooth, but then given the time constraints this is a good first attempt.
The printer I used at the Wescott Library was about a $4500 dollar maker; I don't imagine the cost of the printer matters as much as the print quality and the filament but from what I understand, finer layers means more time, and more time means better detail, but it also means more time and I am only entitled to a 4 hour appointment; if I want to go higher quality I'll have to invest in a printer for an object that I might not use more than once.
The scales are tipping, but I can't see where they might fall - given my time constraints I should probably keep trying the library's machine but the idea of having my own for better quality prints is tempting.
