Beautiful piece...digital coloring over ink drawings definitely generates an awesome result. The lineart stands out very crisp and resembles comic-style art so it's awesome >:3 Really nice job on this guy!

Yeah, storks (like the marabou) where heavy influences for this griffin.

Thanks! This was colored digitally. I'm considering making a colored version with traditional media too.

AH! YOU COLOR BETTER THAT YOU DRAW! I can definatly see the heronic (?) influence in this! But it looks less vicious, almost like it could be in a movie about saving a kid and stuff.

Thanks! It's actually based on a creepy-looking species of stork. Haha, I can imagine it now. It's the ugly griffin that everyone was afraid of and hunted, but then saves the kid hanging from a cliff after taking a stumble, and then they become friends and everyone learns to not judge based on looks.
Or it could be the bad, creepy type of griffin that lurks in the shadows until there's a battle, and then comes out to pick on the remains.

You think so? I'm having a hard time deciding, personally. The ink and the colored versions have very different feels to them, so it's almost hard to compare.

Thanks! And yeah, the sky is a mix of soft brushes for the base, hard, low-flow brush for the highlights, and then hard smudged. Hmm, all in all, it probably took about two hours, but I had lots of distractions while doing it, so it's hard to say.
I'll try to put together a step by step thingy, and describe each step too. (I think I saved eight process images).

I love this! It looks like a very defined statue because of its cold colors.

I really like the look of the coloring, it blends well with the inking and the pallete makes the storkgriffin look more gruesome.

Thanks! I've been getting some good results with this style of coloring over my ink drawings (still can't draw linework digitally to save my life ugh).
