Well, my first Mass Effect fan art. I absolutely love this game, finally finished it and it was amazing Garrus Vakarian is my favorite character, turians in general are my favorite but he's something special. We all know the love interest is between Shepard and Alenko, but I always figured my Shepard and Garrus shared a different sort of love, rather than a love based on lust. But that's my fangirl talking That's just what I figure, he's such an awesome character

I always used him on missions

The background is terrible but I like the blue.

Commander (Aaliyah) Shepard is mine (technically), Garrus Vakarian and Mass Effect belong to Bioware.

You must see snow It's a shocker but it's beautiful in its way.

Yeah I'm getting that feeling ^_^ Not quite sure why, but a lot of people like Canadians. That's why a lot of Americans sew little Canadian flags to their bags if they're traveling.

There IS snow in Aus, but I'd have to go a couple of states south to see that. And keep in mind that Aussie states are MUCH larger than American ones. We have about the same size landmass, but while they have fifty states, we have eight.

I'm very aware of that. We have massive provinces too, (same thing). Our coastal regions have it good during winter. Isn't there a massive desert in the middle of Australia though? Speaking of which, I want to visit Australia Hopefully I won't get any monster spider attacks like my parents friend *snerk*

Yeah, more than 99% of Aus's population is scattered around the (relative) edges of the country. Most of the centre is unsettled and, while explored, nobody really does anything there. It's too hot to settle, and too expensive to terraform. It just... sits... there.

If you come over, let me know and we can hang out some time
And you will never let that spider thing go, will you?

Some places can't be settled, like Death Valley - 'nuff said.

That's a sure thing, you can show me a few things too
Never!

Whatever you do, do NOT come in the summer. I'm talking hot. We Aussies have lived here all our lives, and we think it's hot. Like more than 40C hot.
Come in the winter. It usually only hits 20-25C in the winter.
And make sure you stay in Toowoomba. It's a city about an hour, maybe an hour and a half west of Brisbane. (And it's a 20 min drive from where I live lol)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aelwen In reply to Shade184 [2009-08-22 20:47:35 +0000 UTC]

I can see that, hot is fine but 40C hot for a week. Though it's not necessarily the heat that gets me, it's more it being muggy than anything else. Hardy folk, you Aussies and us Canucks Hot and cold. (Stereotypes, maybe?) Winter is always the perfect time to travel, it's ass-bitingly cold so we go to warm places (Mexico is most common).
Toowoomba, I'll have to look it up on google maps (We must see a kangaroo, it's a must for little tourists like my future self )

Shade184 In reply to Aelwen [2009-08-23 15:56:39 +0000 UTC]

Just... come in the winter. You won't have any problems handling it.

Kangaroo? FUCK ME DEAD WHY DOES EVERYONE INSIDE THAT THEY "MUST SEE A KANGAROO"?

Sorry. To us, roos are nothing special. to you it'd be like saying "When I go to Canada, I must see a hockey team!"

Yeah...I have a thing against overglorified stereotypes. But don't worry about me. Come and see a kangaroo. Watch it hop about for a bit. Be happy

You won't see one outside of a zoo though, unless you want to head out to the rural areas which have no internet or phone reception and are just lonely stops on the road to nowhere. And even then you'd be lucky to see one that isn't roadkill.

But fortunately, there's a zoo near Toowoomba.

Aelwen In reply to Shade184 [2009-08-24 04:27:45 +0000 UTC]

Because we don't SEE shit like that ever. And I know it annoys the hell out of Australians but it's just interesting to see unfamiliar fauna. At least, that's how it is for me, I don't know about everyone else. It's like seeing vineyards in France or Italy.

*snerk* Bad analogy, regardless, "everyone" wants to see a hockey team. Hockey is fairly big with us, football is too but that's more an American thing. American football. The only thing I can think of - at the moment - that is an equivalent is "When I go to Canada, I must see a cow!" Cause we FARM here a lot. But that's a crap response though.

Yaaaay!

Ah, one of the main things I would like to see is Steve Irwin's zoo, Australia Zoo? I don't recall the name exactly, but I'd like to visit that. I was and still am a fan of him, he did good work.

Though I'd probably get myself into trouble some way or another I'd like to see areas that aren't just tourist zones, it's the way I travel, I don't like tourist-y destinations. You know, feel the heart of the country? In the proverbial sense..?

God, I'm actually rambling

Shade184 In reply to Aelwen [2009-08-24 14:31:00 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I know you never see stuff like that. Forgive my bitchy attitude; I was in a rather bad mood when I wrote the reply. Nothing personal.

Cows? Why would anyone from Aus want to see cows? They're like the most common thing around here. I even used to work with cows.
But yeah, for all those city-bred Yanks out there, I suppose that cows might be rare and exotic beasts.... retards lol

The Australia Zoo is once again, a glorified stereotype, but it's a good one. It's actually (relatively) not far from where I live either, in fact it's the zoo I was referring to. You won't find Steve there anymore ( RIP to a true Aussie Legend) but the zoo's still a great place, apparently.

Actually, I know a lot of places that you will never ever see on a tourist guide, but will get you close to the heart of Australia and it's people.

Certain small semi-rural towns with strange names are where you will find REAL Australians. Towns like Helidon (hell-i-don), Meringandan (mer-ING-an-dan) and Gatton (duh). Most of the time, all these towns have is a school, a pub, a corner shop, a post office, and maybe a church. Most have several small lucerne or wheat farms. You have to go to the nearest large-ish town to buy anything more than bread, milk, fish 'n' chips, or beer.
But the people are friendly and the food is good and everyone loves visitors.

The way I see it, these towns are the best places in the world. Cause they're my home.

Now look who's rambling.

Aelwen In reply to Shade184 [2009-08-25 02:50:53 +0000 UTC]

*shrugs* No biggy

Well they're common there too. I don't know, there are far too many similarities between Canada and the U.S that it's difficult to differentiate. Except a lot more people like us.

I know I won't find him there, I cried when I heard he died, but at least he died doing what he loved which is what we can all hope for in the end It's a shame I was far too young to go when he was alive.

Oh... truly that would be my proverbial heaven. I love small towns - though not the small town mentality - and the whole feeling you get in those sorts of towns. I agree with you, those are the best places to live

Shade184 In reply to Aelwen [2009-08-25 12:45:46 +0000 UTC]

Well, you'll find cows just about anywhere in the world, I suppose.
And yes, they do like you guys better. For bloody good reasons.

I never saw Steve in person, but my brother did. He said that what you see in the videos is nothing - his presence commanded immediate respect, while still keeping it lighthearted and open.

Mate, if you start to plan a trip, let me know. I'll take you to all those places; you'll have the time of your life. Of couse, I'll have to show you Brisbane, and the Zoo.

Aelwen In reply to Shade184 [2009-08-26 06:12:43 +0000 UTC]

They hate us

Only a good person could command such respect while being kind and out there. I don't doubt that in the least, I've always admired that man, watching his shows growing up helped with my view on animals. Though... I've always been that sort of girl

You'll be the first one to know, thank you!

Shade184 In reply to Aelwen [2009-08-26 07:36:06 +0000 UTC]

Wait - who hates you again?

I never was really much of an animal lover. But I don't know of anyone who didn't think Steve was an amazing bloke.

I think earlier you said you've been to Mexico, amirite?

Aelwen In reply to Shade184 [2009-08-27 03:21:03 +0000 UTC]

Americans.

I do, unfortunately. I've heard some people mocking his death and what not. I am such an animal lover, I hate it when people don't treat them right/with respect.

No, you're mistaking me with my parents I've been to the West and to Ontario (Toronto and north to get back home) and I've been to the States. Twice. Barely.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Shade184 In reply to Aelwen [2009-08-27 06:49:03 +0000 UTC]

Right.
They hate us too.
And we hate them right back.

Oh, I knew there were people who mocked him, including a few Aussies (grr they are a disgrace our country), but not personally.

I've left Queensland 3 times, each time I've travelled a short way into New South Wales (yeah we have the most boring and unoriginal state names). I never stayed for long.
I've never left the country (although that's excusable because we're an island nation). But I really want to travel Ireland, England, Canada and Germany.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aelwen In reply to Shade184 [2009-08-27 07:58:23 +0000 UTC]

*snerk* Good work, they need to be taken down a notch (or several).

We're also young, so it's alright, we'll get there eventually ^_^ (It is excusable, I wouldn't have expected you to travel anywhere else). Oh me too, I'd like to see the Highlands. England and Germany have really nice architecture too, cute little towns too, which is what I really want to see :3 All those cobblestone streets (LoL, yeah, I know..) and all the little shops

The offer is up for you as well - if you ever decide to come to Canada - though I suppose you'd have to take into account how massive the country is. (I suggest a road trip It's the only way to see all the best bits, though if time and money is a problem then go to Alberta. GORGEOUS.)

Shade184 In reply to Aelwen [2009-08-28 13:36:03 +0000 UTC]

Too right!
Just make sure you wear a shirt with a Canadian flag on it whenever you talk to an Aussie, and you'll be just fine

I really want to do a year in Germany as an exchange student. It'd be loads of fun, and I've heard that 90% of Aussie students who go over there learn for a year or more speak the language fluently by the time they return hope.
Unfortunately, I'll probably have to make it a vacation instead.

I've always wanted to go on a road trip, but overseas? That's be fantastic!
Money might be a problem, but what the hell, I'll cross that bridge if I ever come to it.

Aelwen In reply to Shade184 [2009-08-28 22:17:07 +0000 UTC]

Bah, that's lame, I'll stitch a little flag onto my backpacks. It'll be nice to be to a country that doesn't treat Canadians like pests. Or close to it.

There's a University program here (UofM) that allows a sort of exchange program, you need good grades (not the best, but good to be accepted) where you can go to another country and learn there for the same rates you have at your original University. Though, plus room and board. Germany would be fantastic, though I'd rather do Italy or France. Apparently I could even go to Australia.

Vacation it and then go. Get a feel for it first, perhaps.

I think you'd love it, you can go for fairly cheap as well, depends where you go and what you do of course. Plus the mountains... I mean, the whole country is beautiful but the mountains are my highlight.

Lol, don't worry. Sure, there will be people that think you're American and treat you as such, but the majority of people will tolerate and even accept you regardless of your nationality.

I'd have to wait until I got out of uni before I went anywhere, but that's give me time to save up for an overseas trip anyway =]

Aelwen In reply to Shade184 [2009-08-31 00:04:35 +0000 UTC]

I can see that happening, though I'm not really abrasive so hopefully I'll get along with folks regardless of nationality

Yeah, and get experience before going somewhere brand new, though it's usually a good bet to go somewhere that speaks the same language as you first. Get the feel for travel lol.
