Thank you so much my friend, Ballard down is a mixture of heath land and untouched land which is grazed by sheep and horses it is owned by the National trust and like you in GSMNP they face difficult environment issue when making certain area's safe for hikers. Last winter the UK was battered by many storms and heavy rain which turned some of the paths into rivers and made some other paths unsafe but the repairs were done so once again this summer people could carry on enjoying the natural beauty Ballard Down has to offer. For me I love this place it one of the best places to see butterflies, other species of wildlife and the views of the beautiful countryside are breathtaking if you are ever in the UK let me know and I return the favour and show you and your friends around.

I must add this to my bucket list, Sir Adrian. Were I to venture across ye aulde pond, I would enjoy walking this land. It reminds me of the balds on the high ridges of the Smokies.
