Description + I don't like the phrase "by the skin of your teeth", just rubs me wrong, but this photo really is holding on by the skin of its teeth. I'm learning that there's a fine line between photographic mishap and artistic beauty. Even though this photo was shot technically bad, in my opinion, I still love how it turned out. (ie, not focused enough) Many of the photos before and after this one are simply too blurry to be of any use. But somehow, this one stood out and I got lucky.

+ To be fair, though, I'm also learning that some of the most interesting shots aren't planned perfectly. What do you guys think? If the photo is good, regardless of the nature of it, is that good enough?

+ Edit : Added grain and sharpened for web

+ Enjoy!

In my opinion, you've probably taken a better photo than that fancy photographer did at that exact moment.

I was the "fancy photographer" that was shooting the wedding. But... thank you?

I love the blurr effect- it's as if everything around them is going dissary, yet they have one another. I can see what you mean by the most interesting shots are not planned- you really have to just be one with the environment you are in and wait for that right moment (being ready to capture it!)

gorgeous angle you shot this at. i feel like the subjects being in focus like they are makes the shot seem much more interesting than without the slight movement of the objects around them. this is just a great shot that shows them together and just taking each other in the heat of the moment. really cool photograph.

I like the fact that it's not perfect either and as the others have said it has that hetic feel with the spinny action going on. That and the ceiling is interesting to the eye. Great capture.

I love it. Im not a stickler for images being so perfect ... the grain and blur give it just the right amount of movement to perfectly render the emotion and fast paced feel of moments like that. Wonderful.

I dont mind the blur or the focus, the fact that the groom's eyes are shut, thats whats makes this shot fail technically. Other than that, this is quite good.

I like the fact that it's not perfect.... It gives it the feeling of being out of control... All weddings are outta control...

I like the grain and noise, it almost seems like a fuzzy memory....

I love the grain, the black and white. This looks like it was shot at just the right time. I love the less than perfect technical aspects. Great shot.

I bet that's what a wedding feels like. Your and your spouse, going through the motions, and the world just spins around you. Great effect!

May I ask how it's done??

The spin effect was actually sheer luck in this case. As the couple is walking down the aisle, I'm right there in front of them, running backwards and snapping photos as quickly as possible. (Sometimes looking through the camera, sometimes not.) Because of my movement, it looks like I had the camera spinning slightly. And again, thanks to pure luck, it looks like the central focus of the spin was on their faces...hence the reason the ceiling and her dress look the most blurred. This also happened because my shutter speed was too slow... 1/20th of a second is too slow for fast paced movement. If I had the ISO set to 400 or 800, the shutter speed would have been higher and this shot would probably have been much sharper.

Hope that makes sense! (I don't even know for sure if that's what you were asking. )
