Description Etherow Country Park:Greater Manchester,England.

My apologies for yet another terrible title...2 years on DA and it seems I still have a deeply embedded inability to come up with a suitable and interesting title.......bless me.

Comments and suggestions are always very welcome

Wow. You have done an amazing job handling the light here. The photo is so soft it looks like an oil painting at first. Amazing image.

This was shot towards the back of Etherow past the lakes where it starts to climb the slope of the valley. There's a fair sized wooded area back there thats just stunning in the right light.

Thankyou,I'm pleased you like it

thats your problem...have to get the name before the sub screen! I use my extensive MP3 collection and play mix and match words!

4420 In reply to haq [2009-11-11 18:47:21 +0000 UTC]

Thankyou

This one's down to Lightroom for the most part to get the high contrast and toning.
For the colour I reduced the saturation on everything but the highlights and tweaked the hue to bring out the orange colour to the leaves..........I was also a bit lucky with the light on the day I shot this

Sorry for the slow response

Brilliant shot What did you do in the way of editing and how did you do it? I can never achieve that 'mystical' look.....

4420 In reply to Black-Spirit-1991 [2009-09-04 09:43:20 +0000 UTC]

Thankyou very much mate, glad you like it

Well this was originally intended as a split tone so there was whole load of tweaks etc that went on in in PS and Light Room to get a nearly finished splittone piece.
The main style and colour effect of this shot was acheived by taking the splitone version (it was sort on the red/yellow scale) and then in PS taking the full colour version and placing it as a new layer over the split tone on 'hue' in the layer styles. That gave the highlights their vivd red and orange colours whalst keeping the more subtle sepia look of the more distant trees.
After that it was just a case of tweaks to the contrast, levels and sharpness.

Hope that helps a little mate

Thanks that does help Quite complex but with practice it will get better for me I've never actually used Light Room though apparently it's very useful. What PS you using by the way mate? I'm on CS3 at the moment and really don't intend on blowing £500 on CS4!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

4420 In reply to Black-Spirit-1991 [2009-09-05 08:08:36 +0000 UTC]

I've got CS4 but I tend to stick with 7 for most general edits as I prefer the way little things like the contrast adjustment works and the layout works a little more smoothly for me.
If you've already got CS3 then I wouldn't recommend paying out for 4 unless you see it at a bargain price on Ebay or something.

Lightroom on the other hand is absolutely amazing,if you've never used it before you'll be stunned by some of the things it can do.And even better than what it can do is that it does a large part of it without any noticeable loss in quality.

If you've not already it's worth trying the free month trial from adobe's website, you'll have to create an account with them and it can take quite while to download but it's all absolutely free.

Damn you and your CS4! It does look great but you're right; I'll stick with CS3 unless there is a brilliant bargain

Nope, never used Lightroom but would love to try it. You say there is a free trial? I might have to look into it! Are the features available UNavailable on PS?
