Description "useless science or the alchemist''

oil on canvas
40x30in
2009

In this painting, the artist criticizes that most of man’s knowledge is destructive to his environment and relatively harms his own kind. He stresses that conceited men who think of themselves wise and infallible are often the most potent catalysts of havoc. According to the artist, it is stated in the Scriptures that true men of wisdom are those who admit the fact that they are nothing compared to the wisdom of the Almighty.

This is beautiful. It invites the viewer to seek out the symbols and hermetic meaning. It's so rich and full of stories waiting to be told.

Ang!... Ang!.. D ko ma explain. It's like a can opener for mind changing. Dis is art talaga. As far as I know the owl is a symbol of knowledge that resembles the almighty while the monkey pictures out men who thinks highly of themselves. High enough that they are making tyranny among other people that creates destruction. Destruction that causes death that can portray by a crow. The difference between the background and the foreground is also relevant that's why the elements truly popped out in the scene. And the use of depth to hide the unnecessary parts of the painting really works well. Kagaya n lng dun sa lower body part nung human owl Haha!? Un ung tingin ko Pero d ko sure kng tumugma ba dun sa gs2 nio ipakita. Haha d nmn ako pro kaya ignore mo n lng haha

A powerful image! I like the smoking mouths symbolising spoiling of the environment, and the ominously, creepy little black "advisor" on the right.

I like your sentiment, but we can't forget that science has given us many benefits too! Without science, I would never see your art

yes, of course! science have always been a big help to us.. but what i'm trying to say here in particular is, there are some who takes advantage and not thinking of their responsibilities. this painting is also a tribute to remedios varo, i used the title of one of her work... thank you so much for noticing the details!

I do agree that people often don't look at the consequences of their actions. I had a look at some of Remedios Varo's work. They're quite intriguing!

Very interesting concept. I see in this imagery that there is more love and concern among the animals and birds than there is in the human race, who are too busy causing isolation and blowing one another up. These representations of the animal kingdom seem to show wisdom and affection, yet are forced to wait and look on as they are continually and dreadfully affected by the actions of humans, powerless to stop them.
