April 15th 15000 bc:

Dear Diary:
Fred and I went up into the desert country, it was a nice trip. Fred loved the dry air and we both got a laugh from the hunter bones we saw. Well until we started to think what killed them and suddenly we wanted to leave the desert area. Also there was no food or water.

Cool picture.

One question, whats that wall of white haze?
Maybe you could have moved the blue haze back a bit too.

yeah, bro, ruski pride...haha

nice work, the bones look too smoothe though, need a nice cracked sort of bump map with maybe some more color variation and some hanging skin and flesh. Also, the terrain is too simple, maybe a pond, some tree branches, leaves, you know? but thats understandable since u prolly spent all ure time modelling the dinosaur. great work on the DD...keep it comin

Meh .. I have seen better by a team of people, but thats a team. Looks farily good but i know you could beef up on textures, seems a little mono-chromatic for me, the models look good though. You could have done the bones better... but how much time did you spend on it all together? If it was like a little project, I see could see why.
But its good just for one person.

On closer inspection I can see a radio transmitter on the mountain or hill in the background over to the right...perhaps removing this would make for a more realistic image.

Looks really nice. Everyone loves dino's (or should!) and this image is no exception. The scale is spiffy though it may benefit from a lower camera position for scope.

The skeletons are a great addition, the lumbering ******saurus idleling along now the TRexs'(?) are well and truly departed.

Great job. I wanna be a kid again *ahem*.

Pretty damn neat. I also believe this is a MAX render. The background is photographically derived and yes, it does seem to include some transmission attenae in the hills (!).

Your composition seems a bit contrived and would likly benefit from a both lower camera position and some overlapping of elements to provide the illusion of additional depth.

I'm not crazy abut the mist. The sun seems high in the sky generally precluding the ground hugging mist you show. It does a nice job of disguising the seam between the BG and the ground plain, which I think is its reason for inclusion. The ground also suggests a very areid region and defies the mist as well.

The dino textures are quite nice. It appears you've used the Viewpoint T-rex skeleton and done a great job modifying it to suit the image.

If I were to suggest one more thing it might be to decrease the amount of fill light and let the shadows darken up a bit. This would help the sun to read as hotter and brighter as is suggested by both the angle of the sunlight and the dryness of the ground.

A larger shadow map size would help sharpen the shadow edges and help place your dinos on the ground a bit better.

It sounds like I found a lot of faults, but they're really quite minimal, just small tweaks. Your image is a very nice render in all aspects. Congrats on the DD

It's a very nice render, but I feel that something could have been done better. You didn't really capture the true size of these creatures, and this can be corrected very easily. I suggest placing the camera closer to the ground, and angle it upwards, so it appears that we are looking up at the dinosaurs.

Very nicely done! I also believe the background is a photo -- I'm almost certain I've seen it before, but can't quite place it. If it *is* a photo, where exactly is it a photo of? Whatever, it fits the image nicely!

And the texture of the ground is just amazing!

The dinosaurs themselves -- brachiosaurus? diplodocus? /me is too old to remember "Dino Identification 101" -- anyway, they are very well done. The only negative comment I would have is that they seem too *small* compared to the T-Rex skeleton; but I guess they could be young'uns, huh?!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

arthurshotwell [2001-05-28 07:14:42 +0000 UTC]

Wow, this is really, really... good.
The dinosaurs look even more real than the bones. It's up there with the type of stuff they put in that movie by that evil company... what'sitsname.

And to the guy who wondered about the dinosaur genitals, they did have them. Like modern reptiles and birds they have a cloaca (sometimes called a vent) right where you'd expect it to be. The cloaca is the one hole that does everything... #1 and #2. It opens into a small pouch-like thing where it branches into the 2 more familiar holes. They all had vaginas, not sure if they had penises though, it probly depended on the species. Modern reptiles have penises but birds don't and dinos are about halfway in between. Does that answer your question.
