Perry and Spencer walked into the tall grass just outside Pallet, thus triggering Oak's 'Drag-kid-into-lab-and-make-him-do-your-dirty-work-for-you' mechanism. Obviously, that didn't end well.Oh, and Oak can't see the unowns because they technically don't exist in red version. Yay! Plot-hole deleted!

I always find it hilarious that, in the games, some towns consist of, like, three buildings, yet when you see them in the anime they're like huge cities!
