approx. 11x6.5x14, not including fabric.

I titled this work as "Ascent" in reference to George Bush's rise to, depending on one's viewpoint, power, domination, or tyrany. My view is that George Bush's retention of his presidency was largely dependent on war, and our thirst for oil, which is represented in the glass of motor oil. The scent (pun of 'a-scent'!) of the motor oil causes the viewer to use other senses in relation to the work. The black fabric draped on the shelf is reminiscent of a death shroud, sybolic of war. The fabric, not touching the ground seems to make the whole piece appear to float, meaning that our 'war on terror' really has no basis, no foundation. The two glasses within contain equal levels of 'blood' (not real!) and motor oil. This sybolizes the fact that we trade blood, as in the death of soldiers as well as innocent civilians, for oil and power. Depending on how the work is viewed, the stance (or 'olitics' the viewer takes as well as how the light (or 'knowledge' is directed, one can see:

two distinct images, one of Osama Bin Laden and one of George Bush

multiple images of the two, with different shadow versions

or, when viewed dead on, the two images become indistinguishable from each other.

What this means is, dependent on knowledge, how it's used, and the viewers own stance or bias, one can either tell the two apart, or more importantly, one can't.

Who is the real terrorist? Bin Laden or Bush? Are they really all that different from each other? Or are they both the same?

I like the way you captured the shadow on the wall for the picture. It would be great if you added in the comments the name of the gallery where this is located, and a little bit about the ideas and symbolism behind the work according to you. Being political, every person who sees this will be limited first by their knowledge as to what this can mean to them, and second by their own interpretation of what they've experienced or heard about or read about these figures. Having something here about what creating this meant for you, what the colors mean (like blood and oil), and what it symbolizes and illustrates will not only educate passers by but will keep this from being misunderstood due to the mere limitations of knowledge the curious may or may not possess. It would also be cool to know what you used in the cups, and the method you used to paint the glass, etc.
