years of experience looking at things has caused me to refine my last opinion, previously i was struck more by your skill at photorealism but now i find i admire the expression and patience in your lines more.
you captured one person perfectly with a visible essence of you, the translator, still apparent.
this is so, so much more than a photograph, or a replica of a photograph, and each deviation from the line and form of the original moment or photo only adds to the drawing's excellence
basically, you're too good to make mistakes. mistakes from the tools of lesser talents are visually interesting, sure, but your mistakes capture the emotion and place of the subject better than light and silver ever could
same goes for your newer stuff too, damn

I have never been interested as a conclusion for my work to “look like a photo” now when I get a comment of that nature I do take it in the spirit it was given, as a complement. But a comment of this nature makes my day, week, year thank you, I appreciate it very much!

Gotta git myself one of them new fangled camera things you spoke of…..
The problem with a snap shot, digital or film is that it one second of time spent with the model is hardly an excursion into the mind and personality of this man. The process of drawing is the process of understanding, of observation, of becoming one with the model. It’s not just about the outcome but the journey. I
great photo is a great photo but it’s not my language drawing is.
Thanks

Nothing really, when my mom died I found some old drawings that I did when I was ten or so, funny even then I knew what I wanted to do, to be an artist.
When I got out of school my passion was abstraction but I wasn’t great at it so I turned back to realism.

the jumper is rendered to perfection, it however does look like it was very time consuming and painfull... so on that note. very well done indeed.

While the drawing as a whole is unbelievable what i'm most impressed with is his sweater. How did you manage to draw every stitch and on top of that using a pencil!? People always tell me my artwork is good but man mine is nowhere close to yours. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the good words although it’s a painstaking process I do think in the end it matters little if you don’t capture the true spirit of the model. Details are what I respond to as an artist, I like the whole Zen meditative process but I also battle the fact that this type of obsessiveness could get in the way of the main reason the work exists. My challenge is for it to still hold together in the end.
