I really enjoyed rummaging around in your site...lol even faved one of your pics. Awesome use of light and darkness, especially when you threw in a little color on certain parts of your works to help accentuate their importance in them. Good job, looking forward to seeing more interesting pieces!

Beautiful gallery- you're absolutely amazing with your use of soft curves, soft angles, and watercolors.
In response to your journal entry- I haven't seen MUCH of Stephanie Law's work, but from what I've seen.. yours is quite individual, and nuts to the people that accuse you
Might as well accuse anyone who takes photos in the parks to 'copying' Ansel Adams, people who like macro floral work OBVIOUSLY are just copying Georgia O'Keefe, and anyone who's writing a fantasy saga that involves elves or heirloom blades is certainly just ripping on Tolkein
I really do love your style, keep it up, and don't let the bastards get you down
+watch if you don't mind my doing so

Thank you Bakafox!! Nicest comment I've had in ages :] I generally try to have that attitude to people who think I'm 'ripping off' Stephanie, but once in a while it gets to me.
+watch is ALWAYS appreciated, lol

You're welcome I get so irritated when people are fast to cry out "copycat".. I'm sure there's a ton of people who make art like mine, who've written poems awfully like mine.. I mean geez.. how many billion people are there in the world? There's no such THING as a totally unique viewpoint anyways, no way to do something that is, until you hit atomic level, absolutely nothing like anything anyone else has done.
Given the numbers, it's not only POSSIBLE that someone might on their own come up with something that can remind the audience of something else they've seen, without the creator having even heard of it or attempted it, it's downright likely.
Artists, writers, programmers- everyone is affected by what they see- which means often there is a deliberate attempt to emulate things they've liked in others... that's part of being a social animal, a human. Everyone just puts their own slant on it.
Sometimes there are people who merely rip, of course, and oh, how we despises them, yesss... tricksy people who steals our images, maybe photoshops them into a new color, with no thought for anything but what they can take credit for- but to just declare someone who's style is on the surface like another's is untalented is one of those big social lies, and probably often becomes an issue out of jealousy.
Heheh.. guess I'm getting a little ranty about it, but it's something that always gets my back up, and I see it a lot on DA, hear it from people around me.
(People saying that any non-Japanese person who does things 'anime style' is a hack and wannabe (ignoring that the style can be very pretty, that there are hundreds of variations- and that IT was based off of WESTERN animation in the first place). That artists who use computers are 'cheating' or photographers who use digital cameras are too..)
Everyone wants to categorize and freeze things into categories, and the first person to get the 'patent' wins
(My writing styles have been accused as being rips.. argh- and I mean, with writing, hell YEAH I try to be like the authors I admire. Because, yanno, I ADMIRE the way they say things.. but I make my own stories, my own characters.. etc. One short story I wrote, it turns out was a lot like one I'd never even HEARD of by some author a classmate of mine liked. Not identical, but alike... and I had another I was working on that had an incest/tragedy theme *years* before I started reading the manga and watching anime that used that theme, but people all say I'm just 'trying to be like those stories' so.. ARGH.. feel your pain. I was more influenced by the ancient Egyptians and Greeks when I started writing anyways.)
I can just imagine, thousands of years ago, after beating out the first plant fiber, some ancient man or woman thoughtfully smearing some designs of ochre on it, and getting smacked in the back of the head...
"You're just copycatting! And pictures belong on cave walls!"
Also can't help but think it's ironic, considering how many art students (including myself) I've heard bitch madly about how a teacher is FORCING them to copy a style for grade.
And yet an accidental or willing assimilation of lines is instant death warrant out of the classroom and on the internet.
At this point, I'm just rambling.. so I'll shushy now.
But I'm very glad I could make your day
