Great gallery mate, but question,is your work dangerous?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

wickedglass In reply to GAGBAGCHEN [2012-06-19 01:00:31 +0000 UTC]

thanks, mate! Yes and no, if you know the dangers of working with glass you avoid doing dangerous things. It involves fire which burns at 2000C and hot lumps of glass, but if precautions are taken, it minimises that danger. I have a fire extinguisher right next to me, but never had to use it in over 20 years. I've cut myself, burned myself, but the body is an amazing healing machine and I've learned my lessons out of that.
All in all, it's quite safe if you take proper measures to avoid accidents!

wickedglass In reply to AthenaTT [2012-06-19 00:56:56 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! My biggest problem, or maybe it's not a problem, is that there is so much I want to make and I have so many ideas and new things I want to discover and play around with, that I end up with a huge body of work. I find it difficult to understand how an artist can settle on one thing and then stick with it forever. So much to do, so much to learn .... that's why I love glass ... also the fire oooo

Also, lerne nur brav weiter denn alles andere was deine Zunkunft an Sachen Glas bringt faellt Dir dann viel leichter!

Legendendrache In reply to wickedglass [2012-04-24 17:10:08 +0000 UTC]

wickedglass In reply to Legendendrache [2012-04-25 02:54:12 +0000 UTC]

Cheers

wickedglass In reply to Feel-LynCharmed [2011-10-15 22:59:46 +0000 UTC]

THANK YOU!!! I'm thrilled you like my work and I'm glad you don't seem to be intimidated as some people have told me they are! My greatest wish is that it might inspire one or two people to step out and do something different. Good luck on your lampworking journey, it's a long one and full of rewards. Any failures don't count as failures, because it's all a learning process and the most important aspect is hands on practice. This, of course, involves things that don't come out right, but there are real gems of learning in the trash and the deeper you delve, the less trash and the more gems you will find! <--- trust in that and you will continue to progress.
Another point of advice I'd like to pack into your lunchbox is to learn a process really well before moving on to the next process. Only this way you will advance in a valuable way. Learning too much at once and moving on to the next step before being able to do the preceeding step to your satisfaction will end up just being more trouble than its worth. Curb your hunger for knowledge and unleash it at the appropriate times
Safe travels and thanks for looking in and taking the time to comment!

Feel-LynCharmed In reply to wickedglass [2011-10-17 16:33:43 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much for your great advice! You are completely right about needing to master one process down before moving on to the next! I was trying to run through stuff and then I realized this is not working! I need to slow down go back and take my time and get it all down before I move on....so that is what I am doing.I've only been doing this mere days but I promise you t's not a phase. find something I want do, I go completely in! I found I still need to master making a perfectly round/symmetrical bead, but it's exactly like you said I just need to keep practicing until I get less trash & more gems!
I appreciate all your advice & words of encouragement, especially coming from someone who makes such incredible pieces of art!!! I think sometimes people tend to forget how much work is involved in a piece of art no matter how simple or complicated...there is always a small part of you in every piece you create! Thank you again! Lyndsay Barrow

Dunno if you know The Flow, but I had a tute in there on the eyes or you can check out the more stripped down version here [link]
I have it on good authority that this tech also works with soda glass
