I'm curious to know how an Italian/Greek hybrid, living in France, who claims to only be moderately adept at wrangling English, is yet, somehow, so well writ... as it were. Your artwork is interesting, your photography intriguing, but your writing is superlative. Could it be the influence of Tom Robbins that is leaking through, or are you pulling a foolie on us all?

This has to be one of the loveliest comments I've received since joining Deviantart. I will oblige you: in Greece, we start learning English around the age of 6. Some of us love it a bit more and decide to truly adopt it as a second language (in my case, third). And I study translation, so you can imagine how much we need to work on comparative literature, slang, cultural implications and anything that will give you more than a superficial knowledge of a third or fourth acquired language.
I guess I just love it too much -i find that English offers a kind of elasticity and "linguistic maneuverability" that suits better the way I want to express myself.
And I guess you were referring to the small story under the Scarf piece? I won't lie, I used to be (and still am) a big Tom Robbins fan, but I had no idea his influence actually shows in my writing, it's wholly unintentional, but I'm happy you noticed it all the same.
Seriously, you had me smiling like a fool. Thank you for your comment.

I'm gonna have to cop a plea and tell you that I had not, before reading this, even seen your little treatise on "The Scarf." I actually made the Tom Robbins reference based on what I had read in your Profile. I do that, though - read people's Profiles. Especially the Profiles of people who have visited my page. Curiosity, you understand. I have also read "The Scarf." Now. Which, in any event, is definitely well written, though what I know about Doctor Who [or, as I often say, Doctor Who?!] and/or Torchwood would not even fill a thimble. I have seen pictures of several Doctor Who's, however, so I do know he often wears a sweater, which, I'm guessing, was the basic stepping off place for your little story.
Anyway... I, too, am a connoisseur, if you will, of language. I have, f'rinstance, several tattoos in Chinese, a couple in Latin, one in Arabic, one in Japanese and a sleeve with two kinds of Middle Earth script, as well as several words and phrases in good old English. I love words. I love a good writer. Thus, among my favorites is Tom Robbins. And, parenthetically, why I not only read your Profile, but felt compelled to leave a comment regarding same. You, my dear, can write. Which isn't to say I anticipate your being a world renowned author someday, or even published, for that matter. But you most certainly have a command of the language and a decided skill for using it to convey your thoughts. And I cannot allow that to go un-noted. It gave me pleasure to read what you wrote, much the same as listening to a great piece of music or seeing a sculpture or painting that has been lovingly crafted. So.. I just wanted you to know that.
Your smile, then, is yet one more reward. I'm glad I could give it to you. Seems like a pretty fair trade, in fact.
Nuff Said..
Rich
