Hey Stuart, remember me?
Anyway me and my friends are doing a road trip around the Uk and going to Edinburgh about mid July. Was just wondering if they're any festivals on then or other things to do you would recommend.

Opps! I thought I replied to this!
Sorry it took me so long.
I am cool; been a bit busy photographing (several events in June and several shoots in July).
Are you coming to Lughnasadh this weekend?

Wish I could..
but am in beijing til early september exploring the hutongs (little streets) and going to mad chinese rock concerts...
Looking forward to when those brainboxes at NASA invent a teleport and I can enjoy the best of all worlds, though I suspect it would pollute the fabric of time and space or something.
Excuse my imagination - I've had too much coffee.
Have fun with the shoots. Looking forward to some cool pics on here or flickr

Ah, don't fret!
There will still be places free by then!
Not in fire though, the fire groups are normally much smaller for Samhuinn than Beltane, and they'll probably not be asking for anyone to join them at the open meeting even.
I've got an organisers meeting on 26th August, will see what I can find out!

Before anyone else thanks me for the favs; I have been rather piled under and have not been able to keep up with deviations in my watch list...
so...
I am now looking at my own favourites, picking one of them every time I log on, and looking to see if they have anything new that I like
However I am still very very busy, so I haven't been leaving comments. Therefore; sorry for the lack of comments!

Great gallery!

It shouldn't be too bad for the long exposures at least!
* Max out your f-stop, I think your highest is F8
* Use your lowest ISO, which I think is ISO 100 for your camera
* Stabilise your camera with a tripod, monopod, or mini-tripod sat on a wall
Bright, small lights such as street lights will become stars. This does not work so well for lanterns, though.
Make sure you get nice patterns, lines, etc of lights. Avoid large areas of your frame that have no lights at all.
Generally avoid getting too close to any light
(For more general low-light images... take a ganter at my more substantial portfolio at flickr ... click here .)

Appreciate very much your tips! I'll sure put them to work for me...we'll see.
I also visited your Flikr and saw other very nice stuff from you there. Loved this one [link]
Yes, my highest is f8 and my lowest ISO is 80
Thanks again!

That's the May Queen!
Well; the photographers really do work hard, from February til April, however, we do need people to help out otherwise who do not need to be involved so much. Within photopoint itself we are planning on having three assistants (for the two Processional teams and one Red Men team) plus one assistant / guard (for the Acropolis).
The assistants carry tripods / monopods / lenses / batteries / etc, plus many of us have wireless flashes which can be used off-camera, so the assistants can hold those up too. Having them there actually makes our lives a lot easier.
If you could visit Edinburgh for just a few days beforehand (for a walkthrough and a health & safety briefing), that would be something at least.
Otherwise; in regards to our photo archives, I did pass on your details to our archivist but he was busy making our website for us, so that other project didn't really get started

I love that May Queen She definately making me motivated to dust off my D70 and get a shoot organised (havent used it for a while). I wish I lived nearer then I would definately be up for physically helping out. But Im in South Wales and have a Farm, a shop and too many pets - oh and a husband to feed so Im sort of stuck here If you ever do need me to do any of that archive work let me know Id love to help out long distance.

We're doing another fire performance shoot tomorrow night, with Meghan (staffs) and Ben too (poi).
Gonna be doing things a bit differently from last week, not least because I was shattered then.
Tis all experience!
As for fire on the night...
At Fire Point...
* Max will be covering your point from the very start (I'll talk more with Nick about the specifics later on)
* Ramsay will be joining Max before the Procession reaches you
* I will be shooting you with the Procession
* Adam will be shooting with a tele lens (70-210mm) from the Bonfire
* Graham will be shooting with a super tele lens (400mm) from the Observatory
After Fire Point...
* Ramsay, Max, and Adam will shoot the rest of your 10min performance at Fire Point
* myself and Graham will move for the Red Men
* Ramsay and Max will follow you to the Stage, where they will both shoot your performance after the Green Man dies (with Eddy shooting tele from the Acropolis)
At the Bower...
* Adam, Nedine, and Tom will be shooting the Elemental Gift-bearers giving their gifts properly at the Bower
Who's Who...
* Max will be getting general interaction shots
* Ramsay will be getting mostly ultra-wide shots of the entire scene
* From the Bonfire, Adam will be getting everything from scenic shots to performer-to-performer interaction shots to some full body shots
* From the Observatory, Graham will be getting upper body shots, plus some scenic shots
* I will be getting everything from part-scenic to full body shots
* We will all be using monopods / tripods and/or image-stabilisation so we can use slower shutter speeds
(Nedine is my Bower photographer, whereas Tom is my other Processional photographer)

wow, looks like you have it all very well covered this year - sounds like we're going to get some damn cool pictures!
I've just been given the job of official firepoint (film)camerawoman (I have to miss the next two weeks of rehearsals due to family stuff so can't take part in the choreography ) - promises to be a slightly surreal experience, being in costume and character as a firesprite with a video camera! Will probably get a good view though...

Hi there!
I really like your gallery. Wonderful pictures!
You asked me about my nick.
It's because I love fire for itself, I have red coloured hair and I like the meaning of Beltane. Unfortunately I had no chance to
take part on a Beltane ceremony until yet. But perhaps in the future!?
