Agreed! I haven't quite finished the anime yet (I'm try to postpone the inevitable end, plus get through Brotherhood), but it's just incredible so far. It reminds me of Death Note in how the plot is able to be so complicated but they still pull it off without you getting too confused.
And it's such a feat to have more main characters than episodes, and still have a fanbase for the coolest ones! Light novels would be awesome.

Yeah, Ladd's more of a one-night-stand kinda guy.... and even then I would sleep with both eyes open. And maybe make sure you're immortal first. And carry a knife. And don't eat anything he gives you.

ohhh it has such an amazing end! (both endings... cos it has three OVAs which are their own story and a continuation of the series) its really the perfect ending considering the story doesnt end there :L
I agree about the what you said about main characters. Character is what really drives the story, and I think that's why I like it (and FMA) so much - the characters feel so human and are so entertaining. I started a poll on the dollars-group forum and its so interesting to see how people vote on their favourite characters.
I started the light novels translated online but not all of them are done and it depresses me! lol

I definitely agree with your opinions on character being central to the plot. Every successful manga/anime, be it shounen or shoujo, has to have strong characters. If it doesn't, no matter how brilliant the plot is, it will crumble.
Characters like Ed and Al, or the Baccano! cast, or even Light Yagami-- they're all multifaceted, and that's their appeal. Humans aren't simple, so we relate more to the complex characters.
And what are the results of the poll so far? It sounds interesting

On further thought (and trust me, I've been thinking about this), drop the knife for a gun, make sure you and everyone you know and love are immortal, leave before daybreak, never lose your guard, don't follow him anywhere dark, taste no food or drink, keep extra ammo in your bra, and be prepared to shoot his brains out and run at any given time.
And then you should be good for a night with Ladd

Yeah thats why those three shows are interesting because they don't just say "this is the villain. he is evil. you will hate them" or "this is the hero. he is good. you will love him and he will do everything right". Everyone, be they 'hero' or 'villain' has their own development and you see all the different sides to them, good and bad.
On the poll people are allowed to vote for up to four characters and at the minute, Firo is well in the lead, over half the people who voted said him! Claire is a little bit behind him and then Ladd. Graham, Miria, Isaac and Chane are all pretty close to Ladd too. Its really interesting because theres only Maiza and Nice out of the characters youre supposed to like that have no votes!

Or I guess you could go for the simple way and beg him to kill you - cos then he wont! :L

I feel the exact same way-- seems all the best shows are like that. Baccano, FMA, Gunslinger Girl, El Cazador de la Bruja.... they never tell youi what to think. You've got to make up your mind, and sometimes it's really hard. All shades of grey.
Huh, that IS interesting! I can see Firo being at the top, though. Young, snarky, hot, immortal, voiced by Todd Haberkorn.... he's pretty much got it all going for him.
