I got accosted by ten today. I gave up trying to use archery to shoot them out of the sky and just started wildly stabbing the air while running to Balmora crying.

I'm trying to find that insta-killing anti-cliffracer belt mod, but all I can find is something that puts a forcefield around you, which isn't NEARLY as satisfying as the lightning bolt that just smites the SHIT out of them!
And I just checked the Morrowind Nexus and nothing, but I do remember not finding the mod there way back when I downloaded it in 2011.Β It was some other site that for all I know doesn't even exist anymore.Β

I've been googling around, too. Can't seem to find it. The skreeing will haunt me forever. I was hanging out on the porch of my Balmora lighthouse and one of them zoomed out of nowhere and attacked me in my own home.
Ah, Nexus. I have an account there where I post my mods (I make Skyrim mods for funsies). It was a bit of a shock going from the Skyrim to the Morrowind Nexus page since there aren't as many mods for Morrowind as there are for Skyrim.

Morrowind gives a lot of features just from its base content (why the HELL have they not properly put spears back into the game yet?!), so people mostly just seem to really focus on improved textures & models as well as a few extra goodies, but Skyrim and even Oblivion are...well, borderline shit without mods.Β They're just so damn "bleh" and it's pathetic how you need the fans to keep the game interesting, and I'm sure the developers purposely get a bit lazy because they know "it's gonna be modded anyway".Β In fact I'm DAMN sure a shit-ton of vanilla Skyrim features were some of the most popular mods from Oblivion.Β I think even the default jump animation was from an Oblivion mod (and holy crap, that game NEEDED it!Β Horrible, horrible jumping animation, BLECH!).
Of course, there's also the fact that with the more "casual" the games become, the more people they pull in (which is the best thing from a business standpoint), and talented modders of course have better raw tech to work with for the more modern games and this is how a lot of them break into the gaming industry by making a name for themselves.Β Not as likely going to get noticed while working on the game that only a smaller, hardened (and patient as hell) group is focusing on.
Y'know, I still actually have to beat Oblivion.Β My old computer died before I could finish it, and the only reason I haven't re-installed/repurchased (for steam) it is because there is no way in blue friggin' HELL I am going to play it again without some essential mods, and by the time even HALF of them are installed, I'll be too exhausted to want to play it in the first place.Β Oh, Catch-22, you merciless bitch.

That is true, I've noticed. I'm running roughly 200 mods for Skyrim mostly to add more features and fix bugs (and boy are there a lot of bugs), but all I've needed for Morrowind so far was the usual bug fixes, a mod that makes signs readable, a mod to increase starting speed, and a pretty lighthouse in Balmora to store my crap. I'd get a graphics overhaul, but I'm playing on a bootcamped Mac that's struggling to keep up with me and makes everything look like a potato. One of the kids I babysit plays Skyrim on a powerful PC and I was stunned to see that it doesn't look like a bunch of potatoes for everyone else.
I originally got pulled into the world of video games with casual computer games when I was a kid. The Sims and Animal Crossing really solidified my love of games and then during my senior year I really started getting into the more hardcore stuff like Elder Scrolls. I was extremely sick the entire school year and stuck at home, so my brother introduced me to Skyrim so I had something to keep me occupied while I was bedridden. Now I own all five games (though I only have two installed at the moment).
I have yet to even play Oblivion. I got it for Christmas with all of the other games and installed it, but then life got in the way of being able to play it (I ended up in the emergency room two days after Christmas and then my second semester was more intensive than I thought it would be). Then, when I finally had time to play it, my hard drive failed and it got wiped away, along with all of my other games. I now keep my games on my main hard drive, but I've only been able to reinstall Skyrim, SimCity, and Morrowind; there's no room for anything else and I'm still trying to figure out how to split my Steam installation so that I can put everything else on something external. Sigh.
