Well I have three speedlites of my own, Canon 580EX , 540EZ and Sigma EF-500 DG Super. They are all pretty powerful so they give enough light almost every time. The negative side is that I dont have any radio triggers for them so I have to use them as optical slaves, that means that they dont work very good when it's bright outside and you have to think carefully how to place them so they would all trigger.
But for taking good photos with slaves when its dark you should really have at least two flashes standing on their own and something to trigger them. Radio triggers are the best solution but to get them good it will cost a lot of money. I really can recommend that Sigma speedlite, it is quite affordable and really does its job, mine has taken quite a load of snow and water and it still works fine.. Sorry bout the bad english!
