Probably not, just because 2D plush aren't very interesting. They're very flat and are more like pillows than stuffed animals. That being said, I didn't know how to make them either a few years ago! If you really want to learn, I'd recommend reading Runo-nuno's blog, she's got some very simple patterns and that's actually how I got my start: nuno-runo.blogspot.com/

Well the pattern itself is 2D, it's really just knowing how the pieces fit together. What I like about Runo's is that she puts lots of little letters on a bunch of the pieces so you can see where they line up. Quadrupeds are all so similar; if you get her horse pattern, that's almost all you need for anything else!

heya Munch, regarding your etsy patterns, does it include instructions on how to install magnets? I finally have my own pattern how I like it but cant find any tutorials for installing magnets into the bigger plushies and am considering buying a pattern pack just for the magnet info. thanks!

I don't have instructions in the pattern, but I can tell you how I do it! Most artists I know (and me) use hot glue. For example, we're putting a magnet in the mouth to hold something. I'll sew my head together, take my strong magnet, and put a dab of hot glue. Too much will increase the separation between the magnets (and you're already going to go through two layers of fabric) but not enough won't stick well. Then I'll stick it to the inside of the mouth. I like using my stack of extra magnets to help me line up where to place it. After that's good and dried, stuffing the head helps hold the magnet in place. I'll do something similar with the accessory, and use the extra magnet stack to make sure I orient the one in the mouth with the one in the accessory!
Let me know if you need more detailed instructions than that. The big tips are double check your magnet orientation before gluing, and add the magnets as part of the construction and not after you've put the whole thing together (or you have to cut a hole to get it in!).

ah! hotglue! never would have thought of that. I was thinking I would have to try and make a iron on patch and iron it on the inside somehow then stuff it. Wasnt sure if that was the way to go because I didnt want it to warp the final pattern shape in the end. Might be ok on larger areas though but yeah wasnt sure how it "was done" by most folks. Thanks for the tips, you rock!
Any idea on wire armatures into bodies and wings? I think the wings might be pipe cleaners sewn in but how the heck do you slip it into the tight fitting pony bodies. Even before stuffing it seems too small to put the wire in there. It would have to be stronger than pipe cleaners though but am not sure whats the best gage? (thickness) for the wire.

You gotta be careful with an iron and magnets, they don't play nice and it's very easy to hurt yourself accidentally when your fabric is moving because the magnet is trying to jump to the iron.
For armature, there's a bunch of options. I have a big spool of 22 gauge florists wire I got from Joanns I use, and I twist several strands as needed for bigger projects. I'm sure you could use bigger gauge for bigger projects too, you just have trade offs between flexibility, weight, and strength. There's also plastic armature from craft stores, which works like pop beads, but you have to also buy the joints and such for it (check out crscrafts.com for examples). A cheap way to practice is just try pipe cleaners, but The tips ended up being too sharp for me to keep using them long term.
