# About me
Describing myself as an artist still makes me smile, there is nothing else in the world I would rather be doing.Drawing and painting have always been a part of my life and something I've loved since childhood. My parents supported and encouraged me, despite my sometimes inappropriately placed paintings and it has been said, excessive use of my mothers red nail varnish.
I would say I'm a self taught artist, although there have been many people along the way that have helped my development, including my high school art teacher Mr Krumins. My first inspiration was watching my father working on large fantasy posters, meticulously adding sumptuous colours. I loved the stunning images and beautiful colour combinations that he would create. Those posters are a great influence on my acrylic paintings.
I like working by myself and can happily paint late into the night when I have a deadline. Although I find solitude helps my productivity, I would not want to work in complete isolation. I love visiting galleries and exhibitions. Paintings that inspire me are as diverse as J.M.W.Turner's Fishermen at sea, Gustav Klimt's Tree of Life and Jasper John's Target, in graphite, amongst many many others. Observing the great artist's work, pushes me to continuously develop my own pieces.
Inspiration comes from everywhere and I try to always have a sketch pad and camera to hand. I often refer to my own photographs when beginning a canvas and have piles of drawings and other reference material in my studio. I enjoy creating recognisable images and then playing with the colours and level of detail. I adore painting, and become completely absorbed in it. Everyday is crammed full of images, sun light flooding through a glass, a cat's sideways glance and the clash of colours noticed in a row of paint pots, I can't wait to put paint on canvas. I'm committed to painting and my ambition is to continue creating paintings people love.
I exhibited for the first time in spring 2006 and I've been enjoying exhibiting since then. I've also been selling my original paintings on the Internet and reaching a wider audience with customers from Scotland to America.
P.S. Creating things has always been part of my home life too and something I've recently started to share though my blog creativehomelife, I hope you enjoy it.
