Um... Hello?
I'm a new Mac user, as my parents got me a Mac Mini for Christmas. (I couldn't help but be so happy and thankful. My parents aren't the expensive kind of people.)

Does anyone here have any tips for a new user?
And may I join?

I'm doing the beta thing with Yosemite, where's all these features? I feel like I'm on a phone, Guess the next step is iOS 9, Mac used to be fun, now they seem over loaded with stuff the average user doesn't use. And the guy seems to be going back to os8ish at least to me, sick of the god ugly dock, why is it so bad to give us the options to theme, makes no since. For as much more we pay for our machines we should be getting more. But forever the optimistic user I know we'll get thing straight, no I won't switch to windoze for any thing. hehe

I love my MAC and have been a user since 2005. But now I want to update and use Geek Tool. Where do I find a good tutorial on how ot use the newest version (2.1.2). I have no idea what I am doing and would love to have some nicer desktops.

Which version of PS? I've been having similar issues with CS5 and very large files. Luckily I still have CS3 so I just reverted to that for larger files.

CS6 Ext, went the forums but said they haven't heard such of thing happening, but suggested putting the tile disc 128 from 1024 and I put the opengl thing to basic then shut it off, and might be plugins, thats for third party only know I know they had a performance pdf for cs5 up in the forum. I did that it seemed better but we'll see for a bit

I have been in the forums and a slow down of cs6 I think is becoming more common and have notice reverting back to cs4 also seems to be what some are doing.

I also read that it might be 32-Bit vs 64-Bit problem, makes me think that could be why my cs6 is running slow but there is no option to change to 32-bit on Mac. They did previous versions and new this was a thing that had to be done so I don't get why they left it out.

Sound like some pretty upset people..

Representing the Platinum Cabal here. Gray stuff is neat, but it's still playing catch-up. Hopefully Tim and Jony can scrape together some sweeping changes and turn the Apple look upside down again.

Then again, it's all just lappies. They'll never last like desktops do. I mean real desktops, of course. My G4 is 13 years old and in daily use. A couple of PCI cards keep it going. SATA USB The Second, maybe a new WiFi card one day. Screw it. Who needs this Intel crud!?

Do you know where to find cheap video cards for a motorola g5, mine is fritzing, and it's expensive. My intel mac pro tower is doing good though.

TheInnerJamie In reply to Amberck2 [2012-06-27 21:19:08 +0000 UTC]

As for parts on the G5, you might try Wegener Media or Mac Res Q. Also, visit Low End Mac and join the Swap List. All of those are great folks that will help you keep your old (read: real) Macs going for a long, long time.

And then... Sell the Mac Pro. Apple is going to turn it into a giant cell phone, so it'll be like, the biggest iPad on Earth soon. Or, install Linux on it. OS X after Power PC is a bucket of fail.

I just recently gave up on modern Apple stuff and have gone to Linux for my day-to-day use, while my G4 has been moved into retro use for Mac OS 9 software and games.

I have a G3 that still runs. But I use my G5 8 core the most. My lc still runs, and my IIci, beasts that never die.

My Power Mac 6500 and Powerbook 3400 run like dreams and could kill the average hipster if dropped on them. I can't take my Powerbook to local Austin coffee shops, or I have to answer too many questions from the college kids wondering what it is.

I should get a Compaq Portable and haul it up in there, then make a stink when there's no power plug. Someone can ask about my battery, and I can get indignant, claiming "real computers don't have batteries."

; u; I have Sketchbook Pro for my iMac. And I love it. However I use that program for lining/sketching and use PS CS5 for Coloring/Shading. It's a great combination for me. ^ ^ I don't know any other GOOD sketching/drawing programs besides Sketchbook Pro actually.

Yes. But I've only been a FULL BLOWN Mac user for less than a year now [got my first iMac last Christmas]. So I probably wouldn't know as much as an oldie Mac user would. But that's just how I feel.[maybe get the trial of CS5 and see if you like the combo like I do! C:] Sometimes it could be the tablet that can improve your art-skills too. Usually Wacom is what every digital artist goes for.

Maybe. Yes. Everything shall not work for everyone. I've tried Pixelmator... Not really a drawing/coloring program but if you ever want to try the trial, I think that's at the App Store. xD

I'm thinking about buying a Mac for mostly drawing and possibly some work.
What would be a good Mac computer or laptop to buy that won't run me dry of cash?

At least a point in the right direction for what I'm looking for would be nice.
