About that piece hovering in the "DTF" section...I don't think we should hide her mistakes from her. I don't think we should say she "sucks" or things like that, either. This piece just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
Look at my own work...it's obvious I spent a lot of time on it, but nobody gives a crap about it. I'm not a popular name, my submission wasn't up at just the right time to get noticed. I do the best job that I can. Take a look at some of that girl's other work...it's a lot better than her piece which has recieved so much attention. That piece would not be in top favorites if it hadn't just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
Also, most people don't even know what the original photo looks like. She didn't link pack to the stock, so people probably thought this was some miraculous photo make-over. Once (some) people see something in DTF it's like it's famous and they agree that it's "freakin' awesome" and favorite the piece as well. The manip itself was very poorly-done. I don't see how people are missing that. It's the photo that everyone loves. How can you deny that?
So, now, this poor girl is going to think that it's such a great piece and that she did a totally good job when it's awful. Sure, encourage her. But do so by telling her what she needs to work on, not giving her a ton of credit for poor skill. If you be honest -instead of "trying to be nice"- and tell her what's wrong about it (I believe in constructive criticism) maybe she will actually realize that she needs to work on it. Which she does.
My argument is just the fact that she has very poor skill and is recieving so much credit for it. I say- tell her what looks poorly-done in a nice way, don't give her so much credit, and encourage her to try and work on it.
I don't know why the heck that just got so long and so redundant...this is why I'm not a writer. :]
