Oh, you make some wonderful pieces of art. Love the flowers/fungi/animal ones. The rest is awesome too, but just loves those motives. The details in them and the way you capture your motives is just stunning.

Thank you, how nice to hear. I have been an artist for about 29 years and had 8 years of training before then. I am still learning and improving and love to do art. It is also my profession.

It's funny, I saw on many of your pieces that you'd started them in classes/demonstrations and thought 'wow those look to be some pretty high quality classes she's going to' before I realised you were the teacher! What's your favourite medium to work with?

I have been teaching for a long time. My 3 favorite mediums are watercolor, colored pencil, and gouache. I like them individually as well as in a mixed media piece. I enjoy acrylic as well, but more as an under painting for a mixed media piece. I also love to draw.
What about you? What mediums do you do and what is your favorite?

I've always painted in acrylics, which I enjoy. I've been thinking of trying oils again (I once had a really cheap set but wasn't a good enough painter to understand how best to use them. It went rather wrong so I've not touched them since). I know a lot of people do acrylic under paintings and then use oil on top but I'm not really sure what the benefits of that are? Although I spoke to a local artist who uses oil and he said the quality of colour/light is completely different to acrylics, which is what got me thinking about trying them again. I've also been trying out watercolour recently after being afraid of it for years! It's interesting to work with compared to acrylics I think the trick is knowing how to get the watercolour to behave in the way you want while still letting it do it's own thing - I really respect anyone who can do watercolours well

Watercolors are about the water and good paper is essential. Learning what the different amounts of water on the paper or the brush will do takes practice. Guiding the paint and controlling it at times can be achieved with practice. I did my thesis in college in acrylics. The quality has gotten so much better since then, acrylic paint back then was not great. I like acrylic and I especially like the way it looks under my colored pencils (I put a ground or transparent gesso between the two).
