Hello Grant. I just wanted to ask what you had to fulfill to become a freelance illustrator, because I've been thinking of freelance as a career option.Β

There's no good answer for this. You just have to make the jump when you think the time is right. It's really tough to make it on freelance work alone. My recommendations: make sure you have at least two regular clients lined up, make lots of additional contacts (companies/editors) and talk to them regularly, and if possible, have a bunch of money saved up so that you can pay some bills during those SLOW months... There will be many, many SLOW months where you'll have no checks coming in.
