Fantasy is definitely your niche, my friend.Β
Outstanding work there. I've noticed a couple of odd looking pieces with your hero work, like Captain America. Could just be a lack of interest in the style choice used on my part.
None the less, everything you are doing with the fantasy realm stuff works.Β
Let me know if you ever start up a book in that arena.

You bet.Β
I draw stuff for/with my daughter all of the time, so I know exactly where you are coming from and where you are headed with it.Β
Just remember to keep your own personal interest and identity as your own and draw the fantasy stuff that you like, while keeping yourself fresh on the hero stuff that you can bond with him on, as kids need those positive influences and if you support what they take an interest in, it makes a huge impact.Β
Working from home gave me more time with my daughter when she was younger. When she was little and watching educational toons, I would draw those things for her. Now that she is older, she watches and likes different style of toons and has a way better understanding of comics and heroes, where she actually enjoys them, along with the toons and shows she and her girlfriends like.Β
If you really want to get in good, know how to draw whatever is current with the kids, as well as within your own interest range and groups as well. It will round you out as an artist, as well as a father that is more intune with what your child is watching and being influenced by...along with setting that proper bond between you for a strong and healthy relationship.Β
You'll find your path...take what I've mentioned here and use what you are meant to take from it, that works for you.Β
I look forward to seeing the new stuff you post.Β

Fantastic Gallery.Β Do you color your own lines?Β The subdued colors work really well with your characters.Β I like your detailed armor without going overboard.

Thank you for the compliment! If it is for personal use on roll20, I dont see a problem with it. Normally anything posted to the net would need to retain my signature on it. I don't see how that is possible for a token.
If it is possible then keep my signature on it, if the token is too small then don't worry about it. If it is for a character profile page where you can keep the signature then please do. I appreciate you asking first. I will check out the sight further and let you know if we would ever run into copyright infringement. Have Fun!

I keep the full image on character profile so you can see your signature. For some tokens I simply use the same picture and it shrinks to a 5'x5' square in game (too small to read signature), and I used Maptool TokenTool to cut out face pictures with a border now that I know you don't mind. It is for personal use only, nothing will be distributed. My profile page features your art, signature included. I would not claimΒ your work as my own. However I have been trying to emulate your fantasy art style in some of my own work which is for personal use only. I am by no means as skilled as you, but I really love the anime-lite flavor of your fantasy heroes. I hope you take that as the compliment it was intended to be.

Absolutely! I love to hear that. I have been inspired by so many artists on deviant myself. It also can make me feel like I am not very good, however even if I am not that good I still really enjoy drawing this stuff. That would be enough for me. Thanks again!

Thank you! Β No, not many superheros as I have always gravitated toward fantasy. Β I may do some though, my kids are getting older and are starting to get into superheros.
Thanks again!

Just wanted to say that I just "discovered" you. I spent about 30 minutes looking at your artwork and was disappointed when it ran out. Β Your style is fantastic! Β I hope you are able to find time to draw more.

Just had to compliment the good works. I fall more to the dark side stuff in D&D and would love to see your take on a Black Guard, as well as Assassin, should you ever get the free time.

grandanvil In reply to cainetepes [2011-09-03 05:16:39 +0000 UTC]
Thanks much, I appreciate the compliment!
Most of the character concepts come from characters I play in games or what is ordered through commission, however I will have to start breaking that tradition to widen my portfolio.
I'll see what I can do when I get some free time to try and darken it up for you a bit.

I absolutely love your work, especially the sketches, although I may be biased in that regard. Have you considered joining a group? With your focus on RPGs I would recommend #Dndeviants .
Now I'm going to go through your gallery and favorite a bunch of stuff. ^ ^

Have you ever had a gallery on... ahem... some... other... site whose name sounds like something out of a Tolkieen novel? *cough*(Elfwood)*cough*
You have a very similar style to an artist I discovered over there but lost track of. Your stuff is actually better, but it follows the progression if that artist had continued to improve. Just curious! Awesome gallery, I'll be watching!

I doubt it's me, this is the only community website my art has ever been on legally.
I do find my artwork posted on other websites without my permission. People use them as character references for their RP characters quite a bit. People don't take copyright infringement seriously until they get sued.
Thanks very much for the comment, take it easy.
