I believe I should thank you for not only providing high-quality images of lava but for piquing my interest in capturing images with the same subject manner. Booking a trip to Hawaii as we speak. Excellent work!

Last August I went to visit my sister who lives on Oahu (sp?) and we booked and Adventure Tour on the big island. Part of the tour was going down to the lava field and viewing area. We didn't get to see lava (tourists never get to be that close) but we could see offin the distance the steam cloud on the shore rising from the lava pouring in the ocan. I posted a picture on my stock account here: [link]
It's so cool to bump into someone on deviantART who I've met before!

I'm completely with jayshree. Your lava stuff is fantastic, you have some amazing shots of it.
I admire your daringness to go that close to it! I don't get involved in natural disasters, but I love to learn about them, and volcanoes are my absolute fave.
If you don't mind... what's it like being so close to a volcano? Scary?

Hi....being close to the lava took me a year to understand and build the confidence of being this close. Through experience I have built a knowledge base that keeps me ...well somewhat safe. It is never safe...put it that way. My thought on whats it like.....very spiritual. A sense of power and you have no control over any of it.

Sorry, really late reply...
Wow, I bet it must've been hard when you first started out, then. I'm sure it's probably not the safest thing in the world, at any rate, but yeah, knowledge and experience would help for sure. I can only imagine really, what it's like. No volcanoes near me. Good luck with more photos, you've taken a great deal of brilliant ones so far.

No, I've never been close to it. I think thats why I'm so fascinated by it. I live in Texas and I see you live in Hawaaii. I would love to go there one day. It is definitely a goal of mine.

We will be there for at least 4 years because my wife just got accepted to the pharmacy school there. Plus we really don't like Montana, and Most her family is still there.

I see...cool. I lost two cameras shooting the lava now. one to the sulfur getting into the components and crystalizing it inside. The other one to the ocean.

Your work is awesome! Id like to learn from you if you ever open to share. I am only a hobbiest/part-time photographer. Not even a professional. Although it is beginning to turn out as a full time thing. As for subjects....cant make up my mind. Started out learning photography on my own during my tour in Iraq 2004-2005. Interests started shooting sports and now....just about anything. I added a watch. I like your work!

I haven't started making too much money off of photography either, yet. Your volcano work could definitely get some cash though. I'm glad to share my (limited) knowledge, just ask. Cool stuff, later.

California, I've been to Hawaii four times, with lava views twice, but with a brand-new camera both times that limited my flexibility and success with the lava flows

It is very difficult shooting the lava only because of extreme lights and darks. Then dealing also with the embient light as well. Its a hit and miss with the ever changing temperature of the Lava as well. What kind of camera?
