Heh, what I don't like is "that I believe in the Word of God [KJV]". It reminds me of the elevation of the KJV as the "best" Bible translation. I have had a friend or two who practically believe if it's not KJV, it's not the Bible.

oh no no, other versions of the bible are great too (not all though), but KJV is most accurately translated from the original transcripts, that's all! hmm they seem pretty faithful with that version, it seems. I don't blame them though, it is the most accurate and closely translated one.

Well, I dunno, I've never really done a study as to which is most accurate. But, singling out a Bible translation as the one you "believe in" seems strange to me. I don't think the KJV is best for new believers because of its archaic language. And it has its issues, like the presence of the word "Easter" in Acts 12:4, instead of "Passover", and the way it translates 1 John 5:7, adding stuff that isn't in the original Greek texts. Most accurate, maybe; but singling it out... Not sure I like that. The KJV has its own issues.

it certainly takes some time to adjust to the language, that's for sure. but once you're used to it, it's awesome.

mm i suppose its the readers preference; but when it comes to accuracy with God's laws and commandments etc. I would recommend people to read the KJV; as some translations restate some laws a little differently


I usually read a chapter+ a day, and have been for over a year now; and i've certainly caught on to the language! its so much easier to understand now

That's why I don't suggest that new believers jump right into KJV. I don't like the idea of having to filter God's Word through centuries of language evolution. I've witnessed people do great injustice to a passage of Scripture because of the difference between King James Old/Middle English and today's English. Entire doctrines have been formed based on these, even.

Once you have a foundational knowledge of the Bible, it makes it easier to understand even if it's written in Spanish or Japanese.

you do have a great point there. New believers perhaps shouldn't jump into the KJV, because they may find it frustrating and won't understand anything. But if they like a good challenge, they could try it. Otherwise I'd recommend reading a bit of a modern day English version. it would be so much easier for them to understand, and be less confusing. And that's probably true, starting with a easy-read version would probably make it easier to understand in other versions or even languages.
