Have you every read a fanfiction that you acknowledge is not that great, but still read and follow it anyway?
There is a RWBY fanfiction called Guilty Rose. Ruby was kidnapped by bandits; trained to kill for for them. 10 years later Ruby escaped and after events similar to the first episode joined Beacon to become a Huntress to atone for her crimes. It has it fair share of issues.
One of the major issues, to me, is the backstory; the bandit tribe that kidnapped, Ruby, in later chapters where shown to be rather pathetic and kidnapping Ruby and training her to be a skilled assassin was the only successful thing they did. Any other time they are brought up they are shown to be weak and incompetent ; to the point despite reading it several times faild to convince me they would be able to avoid the huntsman and not get recked by Summer and Raven. Summer is alive in this story; searching for Ruby helped avoid her canon fate, and Raven is far more nicer in this as well and helped the former look for Ruby.
Despite this I still read and enjoy it; looking forward to the next updates. So ever read a fanfiction like that before?

Ah gotcha. So what are your thoughts on Guilty Rose? Like I stated I like it but acknowledge the flaws.
I do enjoy Ruby's character. While she's definitely different from her canon counterpart it does feel natural with the narrative. And there are inclining of her old self; still takes joy in making weapons, wanting to keep other safe, and loves cookies.
