I just posted "Zero 3 Redux" -- not sure if I should continue working on it... a part of me says that I can do better (perhaps focus on featuring less characters -- sketch them all at once? I did them seperately this time).

Yeah I think thats a good idea. Everything we draw cant be gold, its good to study your flaws so you can improve on them. Plus other artist can give you advice.

Trying to, man. Haven't had much luck coming up with stuff that I'm satisfied with -- but then again, I've always been the perfectionist. I just have to learn how to get in the habit of sketching. Tomorrow, I'm thinking of heading to an art store and getting a mechanical pencil with a lighter lead? HB is like one of the darkest ones -- what's a nice soft lead that you recommend? Is it F or 2H? I forget...

If you want soft lead (which smudges easier and lays down darker), then you want 2B - 6B, with 6B being the darkest and softest. H's are harder leads, don't lay down as dark but also smudge less. I forget where Fs land on all of that...whether they are in between the H and Bs, or on the far side of one or the other.

Personally, I don't go much darker than a 2B, or much lighter than a HB. But lately I've just been using prismacolor pencils for sketches, then using ink or regular 2B lead for lines I want to keep.
