I only come here to talk to you. And poke Neon to make sure the novel is going. And if Pip has something up, I'll read it. My membership expired and I'm toying with the idea of just nuking this; it doesn't really seem to be enhancing my life much except on those days when it does...and they are growing fewer and far between.

avfc4me In reply to Bullet-Magnet [2013-08-22 21:12:44 +0000 UTC]

And one of these days, you ought to come out and see it for yourself. The couch is lumpy and the cooking is sketchy at best but it doesn't matter, 'cause, it's California! Just don't come in the winter, it'd be pointless...we can out-grey your grey...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Bullet-Magnet In reply to avfc4me [2013-08-23 06:15:28 +0000 UTC]

Out-grey our grey? I'd like to see that.

One thing I would like to see is how you guys do Halloween one year. It's not really a thing here, except for the odd house party and the peculiar television programming. I haven't done anything for it since I was younger than Little M.

Also that boat thing you photo sometimes. Oh, and UC's Cal Day at their Berkeley museum. And the Boggs Mountain State Forest, because in what sort of state does one find a bog-mountain-forest? Inquiring minds want to know.

So... I haven't thought about this at all.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

avfc4me In reply to Bullet-Magnet [2013-08-23 07:31:19 +0000 UTC]

Well, now. If ye' want the Halloween experience...I'm y'er huckleberry...we start thinking about Halloween in January, change our minds once a week until the big day and then spend two weeks doing six weeks of work, and loving every minute of it.
Β And museums...are you kidding? We have Lawrence Livermore labs, WAY more than our share of observatories, STANFORD, one of THE premiere science stations for great white sharks, (and oh! There was one swimming around under the bridge last week! THAT'S something to see...)

And so much more. SO. Much more. Every time I think of leaving California (because...it's ridiculously expensive) that song from the 60's musical pops in my head. And then not only am I horribly depressed at the thought of being exiled from Eden but to top it off I've got a 60's musical in my head and people really just don't get it when you start singing CAMELOT at the top of your voice. Especially the topof MY voice, as I'm not known for my singing. Pro'lly cause anyone that's actually heard it chose to shoot themselves in the head rather than have to live through THAT memory. Ever. Again. Laugh all you want, it really IS that bad.

Anyway. Next summer, probably not...Little M is heading into a surgery mid-October, and then another big-big one next year; don't really want to come all the way out here just to look at...the couch, the teevee, and that lovely medicine smell. But after the mending? You should seriously consider it. You need a vacation and I love foreigners. And I LOVE sharing my state. And that was SUCH a NoCal thing to say...we're BIG on sharing here!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Bullet-Magnet In reply to avfc4me [2013-08-24 05:41:22 +0000 UTC]

So... because of a song from a New York musical based on a Victorian literary tradition originating in the English translations of a French retelling of the Welsh legends of British mythical history... you must stay in California?

I've heard before that there's something in the air on the west coast, and I fear they might be right.

Brain-addling atmosphere notwithstanding, I would love to come visit sometime when it's all convenient.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

avfc4me In reply to Bullet-Magnet [2013-08-24 23:48:25 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I think that'd be fun! But you'll have to spend some time. There's a lot to see and do here. OH! And it turns out, our Principal's husband is the primary Marine Biologist for Pt. Reyes...so we'll have to work in a back-stage tour...go check out the elk and the oyster farms.

And if you come out here...I'm going to find you a girlfriend. Or a summer fling, anyway. And it won't be hard; crazy isn't considered a negative here, and with the wild hair and the accent, I may have to charge admission...

Yes. I absolutely would love it if you came out for a visit. And you and BigMonster would end up instant brothers.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Bullet-Magnet In reply to avfc4me [2013-08-25 06:00:43 +0000 UTC]

Oh my... how much admission? Wait, did I hear something about oysters?

~

I don't doubt. Though that would upset the life-long trend of getting the youngest of a pair clamped to my side (but that's when my brother's around to snap up the eldest). Three sets of cousins and several family friends can attest to the pattern.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

avfc4me In reply to Bullet-Magnet [2013-08-26 08:06:04 +0000 UTC]

Better than being left with the family dog, right?

Or worse...

...grandma.

I find little notes I write to myself. God only knows what they're actually associated with. Some are shopping lists. Some are a reference that I'll catch in an article that I want to follow up on. Some are questions that I'm trying to puzzle out; anything from how a littleMonster's brain works and how I can get it to do what I want...to better ways to store bananas (and the plastic bag thing absolutely does not work, that's a load of crap.)
The banana problem is serious; you buy 8 bananas, they're all green, you want a banana or two a day, right? Because you don't want to go to the store and buy nothing but a stupid banana every day. Obviously. But what you GET are 8 green bananas day one. 8 ALMOST ripe bananas and you go ahead and eat one. Next day, 7 perfectly ripe bananas. Day 3, 6 overly ripe mushy crap bananas and @#$@#$ but you only need 4 for banana bread. At this point I would also like to note that despite numerous 'life hacks' that say you CAN freeze bananas and make banana bread...they use the word 'can' very loosely. Which is also what you'll get when you do it: something LOOSELY defined as banana bread and it's more like lumpy banana pudding.

NONE of which are just. Plain. Bananas. The supposed perfect food and the ONLY thing I can face as 'breakfast'.

So the banana thing is a genuine problem and one of those things I continue to puzzle over.

Anyway. I really hope these notes have nothing to do with bananas. For the life of me, I can't puzzle out what I was on about.

RFID & NFC
Chips for carton of meth or chips inserted

Integrate w/Oracle? Business software.

So I flip the page over and there's a shopping list that says

Not. Helpful.

I'm pretty sure I didn't buy a larger W.

*sigh*.

We're going downhill from there. This happened this morning. Now, I have to move:

Was walking in from school, stopped to explain politely to the birds that were snacking on the bugs that are particularly ferocious and able to defy all chemicals known to man and therefore, must be providing them bird-super-strength and THEREFORE, they ought to mow my WEEDS since once I move someone civilized will come along and rip all this crap OUT and put in regular old standard bugs and boring old GRASS when my neighbor walks out, grinning and slightly nervous 'cause he's obviously LATE, has been listening to this rant and was HOPING I'd go away so he could get safely to his car...

How long have you been neighbours? Because if it's been more than a month then I'm sure the damage was already done. By now, for him, such experiences are simply life. And if he had any sense at all then he would embrace it for making life goddamn interesting. And if he had the right kind of sense then he would attempt to one-up your weirdness tomorrow.

avfc4me In reply to Bullet-Magnet [2013-08-28 22:06:28 +0000 UTC]

I had a whole day with this, and now I wish SO MUCH that you were my neighbor. At last check-in on my little daydream there was a rocketship half-full of twinkies on your front lawn and you were taking applications for bunkmates....there was a line all the way down to Trevor's house. I think Trevor's Mom might've been in that line but she was probably drunk and thought it was the line for parking.

And then there was a souvenir snowglobe on my doorstep with nothing but some bluish gas and part of a green antenna and it said "Greetings from Titan".

Those Titanian wankers are always mailing their farts to innocent people. Well, supposedly innocent people. Though it could be a Jovian false flag operation. Those Outer Solar System jerks take interplanetary pranking very seriously.

I suppose I might have sent it, but I haven't figured out how to do blue farts yet. The research continues.

That's simply not true. You've got the bones of a very good story and the potential to be a very GOOD writer. If it wasn't true, I never would've bothered. No, all you need is a good editor to show you how to polish off the rough edges.

Ask Pip: I have a very good eye for talent. You ARE a real writer. Now you have to take it from the fun stage into the WORK stage. That takes you from 'writer' to PAID writer.
