A bar of light pierced the darkness of the room as Lilysuckle Snap peered in. It was, at this moment uninhabited, the beds neatly made up and the windows covered by heavy black curtains. She flipped the light switch and the closed the door behind her, sizing up her new environment.
The walls were a chalky white, as were the sheets and pillows on the bed. The carpeting was worn, a washed-out gray. It was as if she had entered a world of black and white, devoid of color. It was a dreary place, and it didn’t help her mood. All of her other high school friends having applied to different universities, Ridgedale Community College did not excite her in the least especially with the schools shady history.
She fell back onto the bed and sighed, covering her eyes with the back of her hand, she had been so excited for college to come, but now she dreaded the beginning of classes. Having to make new friends, learn the names and expectations of all the new Profs, not to mention having to explain her name all over again…
The door creaked, and she sat up with a start. In the door pane stood a tall student blinking in the bright light.
‘One of the Goth kids’, Lilysuckle thought with a tinge of disgust. Not that she would ever admit it, but the kids in black always sort of scared her, and this boy was no exception. He was dressed in black from head to toe, with long, dyed-black hair and a thick line of eyeliner under his dark eyes. She knew in her mind that it was only her imagination, but the room seemed to grow colder as he stepped over the threshold. His eyes, a strange burgundy color, look in her direction and she shivered.
“What are you doing here?” he inquired, in a very clear, quiet voice.
“Um…this is my room.” Lilysuckle had meant for the sentence to come out as a statement, but her voice wavered a bit at the end, turning it into a question.
“Interesting,” he murmured under his breath, his eyes never leaving hers, “I was told that was my room”
She swallowed nervously, “Well, then, I guess we’re roommates.”
He made a strange noise, something between a snort and a grunt, as he crossed the room. The bed creaked as he sat down on the bed across from hers. “I suppose this means we should get acquainted. Your name is……?”
“Um, Lilysuckle, Lilysuckle Sunflower Snap.”
He raised an eyebrow at that, and she felt again for the millionth time, the urge to explain her strange name. “My parents were, uh, really into the hippy thing. I usually go by Lily.” She paused. “And you?”
“Orochimaru Cullen de Lioncourt.”
She smiled slightly “Cullen, like ‘Twilight’”
He did not respond verbally, but his eyes held some sort of dark amusement at the reference to Stephanie Meyer’s fictitious vampire.
“Well, Miss Lily, it was a pleasure to meet you,” Orochimaru said, getting up, “but I need to be going. I’m simply starved.”
“Uhm…okay.” Lilysuckle watched him go, and another shiver went down her spine. He may have said it was a pleasure to meet her but the cold, calculating look in his eyes spoke much louder than his words. Somehow, she knew that Orochimaru and her would not get along very well.
“Lily!”
“Ack! You’re suffocating me!” Lilysuckle squirmed, trying to free herself from her friend’s tight embrace.
Finally Hinata let her go and looked her over. “Look at you girl! You lost weight, didn’t you?”
“Hina…”
“You look great! You’ve got to tell me what program you used. I am so fat.”
Lily had to laugh. “Shut up! You’re like anorexic!” She gave her another hug “I am so glad to see you: you’re like the only person I know here.”
“What about me?” Sasuke, Hinata’s gay friend demanded.
“You, too.” She looked around the cafeteria “C’mon, let’s find a seat before they’re all taken and we have to stand.”
As soon as they sat down, Hinat leaned over the table, pushing a lock of dyed-blue hiar out of her face. She lowered her voice. “So did you hear about what happened last night?”
“No, what?”
“There was another one of those ritualistic murders that this school is so famous for.”
Sasuke’s eyes widened. The boy was as much of a gossip queen as Hinata, obviously wanting to hear more. “No way!” She nodded grovely. “Yep. They found the body this morning: naked and totally drained of blood.”
Lily felt a wave of nausea pass through her stomach. “Eww. Can we change the subject?”
Sasuke gave her an irritated look, but Hinata ignored both of them. Her eyes lit up as she frantically waved to somebody. She turned back to them and smiled. “Sure, Lily. Theres somebody I want you to meet anyway.” A tall thin boy came over to the table, and both he and Hinata hugged. “This is my new boyfriend, Jeremy”
Lily nearly choked on her sandwich. Hinata gave her a questioning look. “Is something wrong?”
She shook her head, with a weary smile on her face. “No, not really. Only….. are you aware that your new boyfriend is my brother?”
“He is?” Hinata stared up at him. “You are?”
“I am.” He grinned, and nodded at Lily. “Hey , sis.”
“Oh , my god! I can’t believe it. My two bff’s are related?!”
Jeremy smiled again as he wrapped his arms around her. “Hina , you’re such a drama queen.” He kissed her forehead. “I’ve gotta go. See you around, girl.”
Hina smiled radiantly “Bye, Jeremy.”
“Yeah, bye, Anchovy,” Lily called. He made a face as he stalked off.
“Anchovy?” Sasuke asked with a laugh.
“When he was three, he decided he wanted to take a bath with all the canned fish in the house. The smell stayed on him for a month.”
Sasuke burst out laughing. Hinata just kept shaking her head. “I just can’t believe you’re related!”
“You better believe it,” Lily answered. Something in her peripheral vision caught her attention. She looked over and froze. Her new roommate was staring at Hinata from across the room. It wasn’t the sort of look you usually see on guys when they stared at girls either: it was the cold, menacing glare of a predator stalking its prey.
“Hey, Lily!”
She jumped “Um….yeah?”
“Who’s the hottie?” Sasuke asked, staring at Orochimaru with loved-filled eyes. Oh god. Not again.
“That’s my, uh, roommate.”
“Huh? Where?” Hinata whirled around in her seat, but Orochimaru was gone.
“He’s gone now…..but oh was he sexy!”
“Sasuke, we don’t want to hear it.”
Sasuke sighed, “His long, lustrous hair, his dark and mysterious eyes……he just makes chills run down my spine!”
Lily shook her head and checked her watch. “I’ve got to get to class.” She stood up and waved “Bye, guys.” She walked away, leaving Hinata to listen to Sasuke gush over Orochimaru.

“What a day.” Lily said to herself while opening the door and slowly dragging herself inside the empty room. “I am beat.” She kicked the door shut behind her and dropped her book bag in the middle of the floor and plopped on her bed. Her roommate was not there, again. His bed was so neat to the point that his imprint didn’t even show. It was as if he had never been there at all. The room was quiet and Lily was at peace knowing that there was no creepy Goth guy in the same room as her filling her mind with dread, so she decided to take this moment to take a sigh of relief.
It was around 11:30 at night and there was no light at all outside the window except for the lightning that occurred now and then. Lily was sitting on her bed with her back against the backboard and her laptop right in front of her. She was talking to her friends on Myspace about how great it was that her roommate was absent from the room that evening. Suddenly there was a shrill scream outside of her room followed by the rapid pitter- patter of a person running and a lot of hyperventilating. Lily decided to look outside and follow the scream to wherever it went. She turned the corner and slowly approached the edge before the next turn. Lily was scared to death. As she heard the loud screams and the begging to spare whoever was doing the screaming, she covered her mouth to keep from screaming herself. The screams from around the corner began to crescendo until a sudden crack and then, there was nothing but silence. Dead silence. The lightning flashed outside and a dark shadow was casted on the wall. She was even more scared now because she realized that she wasn’t alone. The lightning flashed again and the shadow seemed a lot closer to Lily than before and she knew that it was heading her way so she dashed in the opposite direction down the corridor back to her room without a second thought. She reached her room and immediately slammed the door behind her and locked it and took another sigh of relief.

“What’s up with you?” Orochimaru questioned.
She shrieked a little “Wow.” She said to him. “you scared me.”
“Sorry. I didn’t mean to.”
“No, no. It’s alright. I’m just…” she tried to think of an excuse. “I’m just a little jumpy today.”
“You look like you’ve just been scared half to death.”
“Uh…You can say that.”

“There was another one,” Sasuke said as he was eating his lunch the next day. “Another one of those crazy, ritualistic murders. Last night in that building,” Sasuke finished as he pointed to Lily’s building.
“Hey , Lily isn’t that your building?” Hina asked.
“Um..yeah but I didn’t hear anything last night.”
“Have you noticed something Hina?” Sasuke asked.
“What?”
“All of the people who are being murdered, have been admired by Mr. Fine, Tall and Sexy.”
Hina thought about it for a little bit. “Sasuke..you know what? You’re right and Oh My God! He is soooo out of your league.”
“Hey, Hina.” Said that tall mysterious figure behind her
“Speak of the devil. We were just talking about you.” She said to him.
“Hiiiii Orochimaru.” Sasuke said to him. Hina turned and glared at Sasuke and kicked him under the table.
“Uh..hi.” Orochimaru replied. “Anyway, Hina. Do you happen to have the math assignment from last night?”
“No, sorry. But you can go and ask one of the other’s I’m sure they have it.”
“Oh ok. Thanks.” Orochimaru walked off.
“Geeeez.” Lily said. “I swear. That guy gives me the creeps.”
Jeremy came and sat down right between Hina and Lily in silence.
“Hey, Anchovy.” Lily said.
“Hey, Jeremy.” Hina said
Jeremy remained silent. More like paralyzed as if he couldn’t do anything.
“Jeremy?” Hina asked “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. Nothing’s wrong…..uh Hina?”
“Yes, Jeremy?”
“Uhhhh, I think it would be best if I stopped hanging around you. Only for a little while.”
“But why? Is it something I did?”
“No. It’s not you. Not at all. It’s me. I’ll tell you when the time is right but right now. I can’t hang around you anymore. I’m sorry.” With that statement Jeremy got up and left, not looking back.
The look on Hina’s face was heart-breaking. And she was fighting to keep back her tears.
“Hina, I am so sorry.” Lily said. “ I have no idea why he’d do that to you.”
“Me neither.” Said Sasuke. “He likes you a lot and he really cares about you.”
“You guys,” Hina said. “It’s ok. I’ll be fine. It’s time for me to go to class anyways” without a word, she got up and left the table.

Later that evening, Lily went to visit her friend’s room to get her science book. She knocked three times and the door opened for her.
“Hey, Anna” Lily said
“Oh. Hey, Lily.” Anna motioned for Lily to come in “I had your science book earlier but now I don’t know if I can find it.” Anna began to look while Lily glanced at the at the pictures of Anna, and her friend, the late Carry, and the familiar guy next to her in the same picture.
“Umm Anna….If you don’t mind me asking who is the guy next to Carry in the picture?”
“Oh him. That’s Brad. Her Boyfriend.”
“I didn’t know that Carry had a boyfriend.”
“Yeah. Well technically he broke up with her the day before she died.”
“Really? Why?”
“Cause of that Orochi-guy. He threatened Brad before he broke up with Carry. Brad didn’t listen. So that Orochi-dude beat him up. He ended up breaking up with Carry anyways. Ahh, there’s your book.” Anna gave the book to Lily
“Before I go what happened after he broke up with her?”
“Well he was all depressed and then It happened, Carry died. You better go. Don’t forget, we’re under curfew”
“Yeah. I guess I’ll see you around.”
Immediately after she left, Lily started to walk straight to Hina’s room. Lily had realized that it all fits. Hinata was next. She was the next victim but who was the perpetrator? All she knew was that Hina was in Danger and she needed to protect her.
“Lily? What are you doing here.”
“Hina, this may sound silly now, but you are in danger.”
“Haha,” she chuckled “Me, In danger? Right. If you needed an excuse to stay the night you could’ve just said so. Of course you can stay the night.”
“Ok thanks.”
At around 11:30 that night, Hina had to go down to the main lobby because she was hungry.
“Hina, I’m going with you.”
“Chill out, Lily. I’m a big girl. I can take care of myself.”
“Ok but I’m still going.”
Lily and Hina went down to the lobby. Lily was shaking with fear the whole way down.
“lease Lily. Relax, I’m fine.”
Lily had dropped her bag on the way down and turned around to go and get it. Suddenly Hina screamed and was carried off by a disguised figure in all black.
“Hina! I’m coming!” Lily quickly followed the screams of her friend, Hina, all the way to the rooftop and witnessed her being tied down.
The disguised villain went to the other side of the roof to get some of his evil devises which consisted of multiple knives. Lily snuck over to Hina’s side .
“Don’t worry, Hina. I’ll get you out of here.” Then the shadow was cast over Lily and she knew that she was in trouble.
“Well well,” the figure said “Another victim. Come to join the party I see.”
“Just who are you?!!” Lily exclaimed “What do you want from us?!!”
“Orochi!!” Sasuke ran up to the figure in a black tuxedo with a red flower on the side.
“What, Sasuke?”
“Orochi, I don’t care what they say. I love you. So what if you have some..murder issues, I love you just the way you are and whatever problem you have we can overcome it together. Let’s forget about college. Forget about life. Run away with me. We could have a family. Run away with me and we could be happy for the rest of our time on this planet.”
“Sorry, I’m straight.”
“I won’t let you go!”
“Well you’re gonna have to.”
“No. If I can’t love you, no one can.” And with that Sasuke pushed Lily away from Orochimaru and pushed him off the edge of the building, having him plummet to his death.
“Lousy cheater!” Sasuke yelled.
“Wow,” Lily and Hina both said as Hina was being untied.
“I’m sorry I overreacted like that.”
“Well it’s ok.” Lily said
“Yeah,” Hina repeated “If you hadn’t overreacted I would’ve been dead.”
“Yeah I guess you’re right” Sasuke said sadly “Hey you wanna go get some icecream?”
“Sure,” Lily said cheerfully
