Your sculptures are amazing! It takes a real talent to make things like this. How long do these normally take? Is this a hobby or do you also do this for profit (if so I'd love to buy some).

Thanks! A typical sculpture might take about 8 hours, maybe a little more. I make sculptures mostly for fun, but I sell them at art fairs to make a little extra money.

Your wire sculptures are fantastic! It's amazing the detail you put into these!
I am having trouble supporting horns in my sculptures and searched for a more efficient way of handling delicate frills and appendages. Seeing the intricate details of these is an inspiration on how to support a base, though i doubt with near as much detail and art involved.
LOVELY.
Thank you for making and sharing these wonderful artworks.

Aww, thankyou Didn't think my Lego creations would really appeal to the wider art community, but I guess it does to some
You're welcome! I've always had a fascination with wire-art, but to be honest I've never had the chance to make anything.

I used to be a huge Lego fan. I guess I still am, but I just stopped building (unfortunately). To be honest, I wonder if my wire sculpting just filled the void left behind when I stopped making Lego creations.
The funny thing is that I have been itching to make some Lego creations, but have not yet gotten the chance. We're sort of opposites.
If you wanted to try out some wire stuff I would recommend going online to Blick art materials and get some 9-gauge aluminum armature wire. That's what works for me anyways.

Well, MOCing and wire-sculpting are still both forms of 3-dimensional art, so it's not surprising that after you quit MOCing you took up wire-sculpting
Alright, I might give it a try. If I were to start, what kind of figure would you suggest starting off with? (Obviously nothing as complex as yours O.O)

I started out doing a lot of spiders and insects. Those were a good starting off point because they can be easily broken down into simple shapes. I wouldn't be surprised if you were able to tackle something more complex than that right away since you obviously have the ability to think 3-dimensionally.

It's fun to get complements from people who are way better at art than I will ever be. So extra thanks for the complement!.!

No problem, I never say it if it isn't true! That's what I love about dA, we're all artists who respect each other's style of art - I could never ever begin to be as brilliantly creative as you are with metal, your work blows my MIND

Ah, you're figures. It reminds me of my childhood. There was a place where I'd get dragon sculptures like these made out of computer parts and wires. Your work is amazing.

Thanks a lot! I did not know there was a craft of twistie ties out there. Very cool. That has got to be a tough medium to work with seeing as how you probably have to work with strands that are only a few inches long.

TwistieCrafter In reply to Zander23 [2011-03-01 07:04:41 +0000 UTC]
There's certainly easier mediums to work with than twist ties so it's understandable how uncommon it is, but i'm sure people can make crafts out of anything. It's tough at times being that average twisties are 4" but that kinda keeps my average creations at a managable size. It's always the larger creations that are toughest.
