Te explico aunque esta es mi versión de hacerlo claro, utilizo photoshop (bendito photoshop), escojo de que color será la armadura e ilumino con la "paint bucket", cuando tengo el color base entonces utilizo solamente el "burn tool" o "dodge tool" para oscurecer o aclarar las zona, variando porcentaje de "exposure" pues algunas veces oscurece o aclara demasiado, esto la verdad lo hago a mi criterio, según donde crea convenientes los tonos, después los brillos blancos y negros los doy con el "brush tool" igualmente de acuerdo a como yo considero se ven mejor o de acuerdo a donde imagino viene la luz. Si el tono que da el "burn o el dodge" no te gusta puedes intentar con el "brush tool" y un color mas claro u oscuro de acuerdo a tu color principal de la armadura.

Ojalá te sea útil y puedes preguntarme si lo explique muy al ras, tengo otros 2 dibujos de ese estilo Sacred Saga, talvez en esos se note mas el trabajo del iluminado puedes checar con confianza.
