You are welcome Warren I wonder how it slipped in being added to my favs !
I'm ok, my session is done, but I still have to finish my internship essay and I have till the end of August to deposit it. I gonna take my time to do it correctly. I send some papers to become a member of my professional order so I can look for a good paying job as a social worker. And I go out a lot lately to dance salsa. I'm actually following some salsa and kizomba lessons right now.
And about my art, I tried there and there to play around some more with watercolours, but for some reason, the art just doesn't want to come together for me. I did a dry pastel drawing of a butterfly that is decent enough to be posted on dA.
And how is everything going for you ? How are your daughters ? And your art ? Some new projects with summer approaching ?

I can't imagine how it ever could have slipped in there.
I'm very glad for you that your session is done. Hopefully the essay isn't too taxing and you get it done easily without feeling too much pressure. Once it's all done and you find that "good paying job" I bet it will be a nice change for you. I am quite smiling at the dancing and quite impressed with the kizomba (which I had to look up). I bet you are having a lot of fun with that.
I have a suggestion for something for you to try with watercolours in the future if you have a chance. Do a pen and ink drawing of something and just wash in layers of colour in a subtle way. This is how I first started painting, and a lesson I taught to an elementary class and it's lots of fun, easy to do, and yields really nice results. I saw your pastel butterfly and I can tell you are quite comfortable using pastels.
Here work has been quite busy. The girls are doing well, Anne my oldest finished her first year of graphic arts in college and is set to move out this summer. As for my art I have a golf course watercolour landscape going (it's a commission), and a very large acrylic diptych as well. The acrylic is very different colours for me, but it is coming out quite bold and very well I think. I do want to get out and do some hiking and exploring this summer for sure.
Oh and I did get a nice winter sunset photo this year (finally), here it is:
I have edited it to fit my Mac screen, that's why it's called "Almost Sunset Wallpaper", I hope you like it.

Well, the job is gonna be a tool for me to pay my debts related to my studies. In the long run, I would like to do some art therapy with teenagers or young adults in a group setting. So I might get back to university at some point to do a minor in art therapy or something like that. I would check that out in a couple of years. For now, it's really time to get out there and work as a social worker.
For dancing, check also bachata That is another dance that I do quite often. I guess approaching 30, I'm getting back on the dance floor like I did when I was a child. I have a ballroom background and stopped taking classes at 16, because it was too expensive for me. I was working back then small jobs so I could pay my dance lessons, but couldn't do it anymore.
For your watercolour suggestion, I know the technique, but never did it. I watched a really nice video of somebody doing something like this. Here it is: www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfvmDf… I guess this is what you mean. Not only elementary kids do it Some artists still do it too...
I think dry pastels is the medium that I feel less comfortable with actually. I'm more into oil pastels if anything. But I find some of the paintings are better done in dry pastels and I have been thinking about a couple of projects lately. The butterfly is just an experiment...
It's awesome for your oldest ! Following in dads artistic footsteps. And I guess it would be hard for you to let her spread her wings outside by moving out. Through the past year, my own mom started reconnecting with her artistic soul. She started selling on etsy what she is doing. I'm really proud of her ! Here is her online shop: www.etsy.com/ca/shop/LanikArt?… She is awesome ! He crafts are gorgeous and she deserve more views ! So spread the word please !
Your art is always colourful... So even a bording subject like a gulf course would we awesomely rich, I'm sure And that beautiful picture... I already imagine it as a painting !

I guess that is always going to the thing for many young people and that is that they need to work hard in school, and then work hard to pay off what school cost them. Each of my girls has a fund for education that will cover most of the costs related to it. That is unless they are really going to specialize, or pursue something that requires a long time frame. I think doing a minor in art therapy would be an excellent thing.
I will check out the bachata. I just turned 50 this week, and for me I want to get out and doing hiking and canoeing as much as possible. After 12 years my middle daughter is going to stop her dancing lessons. She is still in 5 competitive classes but she is going into grade 12 next year and really needs to concentrate on her school work. It's nice you are getting back to dance now yourself.
That video is very much what I mean, and I know it's not just for elementary kids. It was honestly how I learned to paint. I had done a hawk in pen and ink and felt it needed something, so I "borrowed" my mother's watercolours and technically that was the first time I really ever painted in my life.
I look back at my work from 1986 and I often wonder where I would have gone with art if I had been given support by my parents to take it as far as I could.
Dry pastels are an excellent medium and one I used to do my landscapes in before I started painting. Sadly I don't have copies of any of them at all. Oil pastels are nice to but I find them much harder to blend with.
Anne has been drawing her entire life, and I think she will do really well for herself as a graphic artist. I am actually very happy that she is going to be on her own, I suspect it will be a bit of a rude awakening as to how good she has it now, but that's okay she will figure things out. I looked at your mom's Etsy page and she has some amazing things there. I am going to link it to my girls and see what they think of her wonderful creations.
There are some beautiful colours in the golf course painting, and in the end it will probably only barely look like a golf course. That winter scene could very well become a painting as well I just need to find more time.

Our generation is in dept for studies more than any before, that is a fact. I have no idea how many years it will take me to pay everything back. The amount of money I owe is scary... But this is today's sad reality. We came here I was 12 and my parents are not rich, so I went on loans to pay my education... Good for your children, they have a more easier financial future thanks to you
Happy belated birthday in this case 50 is an awesome age ! This is when freedom starts... I would like also to go more outdoors, but then I will see. The Tulip Festival in Ottawa is tempting me for the next week-end... I will probably go there with my best friend...
About your daughter who is dancing, if she really loves it, do not let her stop for too long. She might regret it later in life is she doesn't go back to it. I know that I did... I dreamed about it for long. I did some competitions when I was back in Russia, but stopped once I was in Canada. But studies are important I understand... My little brother turned 13 this year and because my parents send him to hockey, he has been doing it for several years now. He is at an age now that he can decide if it could be a potential future for him or not...
Oh yah, your hawk drawing... It's awesome ! I forgot all about it, but then looked at it and realized it's in my favs... I think I would like to play with ink (or pens) and watercolours. A lot of manga artist do this and I always loved it. I actually did a card today for Mom's Day for my boyfriend's mom. I will upload it a bit later. And thanks to your suggestion, I used black pen, watercolour pencils and paint !
Good luck to your oldest ! And thanks for your support of my mom's art.
Cant's wait to see your golf course painting ! Something as boring as this could be expressed vividly only by you And become all exciting !

Well my children are luck and I hope they know that, appreciate it, and use it well to their advantage. I also hope you get a very good job and are clear from your debt sooner, rather than later. It is sad that the youth of this country bare the bourdon of debit right out of school like they do.
Thank you for the birthday wishes, 50 is a great age and I got to call my 101 year old grandmother on my birthday and I really enjoyed that. I love Ottawa so I hope you go there and have a great time at it.
Taylor has danced for a very long time and it has been good for her in some ways but not all. She dances at the most prestigious dance company in the city. All the rich kids go there and we are not that so it has had it's good influence on her, and some negative ones as well. I know hockey is it's own evil but I just want my girls to be happy and healthy as I have said before, and to experience as many different things as they can in life.
I saw your card and right away said to myself that you did great with that style, and I am so glad you did it. I love the washes and the details and I bet she just loved it. You did a great job with it.
Golf courses are not boring, you just need to try it and see how hard the game really is, and how much thought and practice goes in to being good at it. I will make an exciting work of it for sure though you can count on that.
Have a great week there my dear, and thanks for all of your messages, I really enjoy the interaction with you.

Oh waw ! Your grandma is still alive ! This is some good news ! And great that you are still in contact with her. I only hope that my grandparents will still be alive when I see them again. I didn't see them for like 16-17 years because they are all in Russia.
Yah, I get you about wanting your kids to explore all different kind of things in life. And I hope that my brother will explore some interesting activities too. He was doing some martial arts, is still very seriously in hockey and likes art. So seeing my mom and me paint or do crafts or do some projects with us is a great thing to explore for him too
My boyfriend's mom did like the card. She was in fact really pleased with it ! I kind of like more and more watercolour pencils and use them more then the paint. At some point, I'm gonna need to reconnect with the paint because it allows to do even more great washes. I uploaded yesterday another flower card done with watercolour pencils.
I'm seriously not into golf lol, but who knows, may be I will see some charm in it or be curious enough to try it
Me too, I like those conversations with you like this

Yeah she is still alive and given her age doing quite well. It was wonderful to talk to her on my birthday. And I sent her a picture of a painting of King Tut's death mask that my youngest daughter and I painted together, and she called me a few days later to say she saw the email and liked the painting. Hopefully you get to see your grandparents sooner than later.
I definitely want my girls to try lots of different things and see what suits them the most. My youngest has been asking about taking kick boxing as she will not be dancing next year. I really think it's so she can kick her middle sisters ass, but I like the idea of it for fitness and confidence as well. It sounds like your brother is in good hands with the two of you and everything he is getting to experience.
I am not surprised your boyfriends mom liked the card. I have a full set of watercolour pencils but I have not yet taken the time to try them out. I saw your flower card and I thought you really did a good of it, especially the glass part which I liked very much.
Golf appealed to the competitive side of me very much for quite some time. Now it doesn't hold any real appeal anymore though. It might surprise you though it is a very multidimensional game to play.
I hope you enjoy the rest of the long weekend there, here we are getting snow tomorrow.

Hello Warren. You are very welcome I was glad to see something new from you. I do like it a lot ! I still didn't do much painting since I came back from Belgium. I'm busy right now with my partner preparing for a huge health food expo that gonna take place this week-end. Since he is doing raw vegan cakes, I help him a lot, working crazy hours. And I'm busy also with school work. Stuff are gonna calm down a bit after the expo and probably after April. Till then, art is on stand by.

Thank you again. I have been working on a large acrylic diptych but the watercolours give me a chance to produce new things in the meantime. It sounds like you are very busy there, and will get back to your art once things settle down. Good luck with the food expo, and the school work, I hope it isn't too much pressure on you, and you get a well deserved break once it's all over.

Yah, there is a lot of pressure actually, since I'm way late in my school assignments. But oh well, it's my own fault 'cuz I have been procrastinating when I had time, just 0 motivation for paper work. But now, with 10-12h of work a day, I can't concentrate on that. I contacted my teacher explaining her what is going on, she is not happy about it, but the finances take the priority over the school. After the expo, I'm gonna give it all in for the school. I didn't spend more than 3 years of my life for Master's degree just to abandon at the end. That would be stupid ! With spring coming in soon, I'm sure the motivation for school work is gonna be there!

It sounds like an awful lot of pressure to me. Procrastination is a fact of life, but one that can cause worry, and distress as well. I think you have this correct though, do what's in front of you right now, and then buckle down and finish the Masters work off completely. Just don't take anything else on until you are through with it and you will be fine. I am off work for a week here, although still responding to questions from my technicians. I had not had a break in over a year so it was time. I plan on taking a real holiday at some point but for now there is too much training for me to still complete with my techs. I hope everything goes well with the Expo and you get your Masters stuff all completed as well.

Thank you Warren, your kind words give me a bit of hope. I'm looking really forward for the Expo; it's Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It's gonna be exhausting, but hell of fun, so I'm gonna enjoy it. Starting Monday, I'm diving back into school work. True, I need to watch out not to start some projects before I'm done with school work till end of April, but I do need to take care of some paperwork related to taxes and the social worker's professional order.
By the way, in which field do you work? Or you full time artist?

kach-back In reply to Wintella [2015-03-19 12:31:18 +0000 UTC]
I am glad my words give you a bit of hope. You should just dive in and enjoy the Expo, and when it's over focus completely on your school work. The paperwork sounds quite related as well, and I would try to do it at the middle point of your other work. That way you have an objective and you will only have half left once it is done.
I am a barely any time for art, artist. I did sell a company I owned in 2007 with two partners and painted full time then, but that only lasted two years. I work in the institutional cleaning industry, where I sell, service, install equipment for, and maintain systems for warewashing, commercial laundry, and general and hotel housekeeping departments. I have done that for almost 30 years. Currently I run the cleaning program for a local foodservice company, and that has been a good fit for me.
Here is a link to my cleaning product book, it includes all I sell, and is something I made up myself: www.nmscanada.com/cleaning/cle…
