# About me
Matt is a self taught abstract artist from Shrewsbury who – after years of daydreaming and sketching on his books in classrooms – moved to the big city for work and his heart remained there."I started drawing at a very early age, throughout school I identified a style of art that I could actually draw being completely unable to draw real life objects like people, animals, cars or houses. After school years I found more time and direction, drawing even more. My 'Linear Art' series (presently at Linear no. 133) improved a hundred fold from Linear no. 65 thanks to a continual barrage of guidance from superb artiste savante Ella Richards."
Although linear art is not an uncommon name, Matt named his series according to the clear gaps between objects within his drawings, evident more so in his early pieces, but found somewhere within all his work.
"I feel like I'm cheating when I allow lines to touch, then chide myself for breaking my own imaginary rules! There is still a common theme within all my pieces that you'll see, the trademark teardrop shapes for example that usually find their way into anything I draw."
Matt's talents don't just lie in abstract pencil drawings, he's a published photographer and writer and a father to a 12 year old, Olivia. Most of Matt's drawings are done on the train to and from work as an alternative to reading the newspaper, the clean, crisp lines that are achieved whilst being on a bumpy train show a distinct eye for detail.
"I'm asked all the time by people on the train whether I can design them a tattoo, to which I politely say no, I really can't – but if you'd like me to draw a happy sperm, or a crazy mix of lines from the recesses of my head I'd be happy to! I haven't had any offers taken up on."
