# About me

As you can guess, I'm a brony, and a typical one at that. At the urge of a friend, I first watched the pilot episodes with skepticism, and reluctantly admitted that I didn't hate them. I still couldn't see what the fuss was about, and was about to move on when I inexplicably sat down to watch the next episode, didn't hate it either, watched the next and the next one after that, all the while asking myself "WHY AM I WATCHING THIS?"...

I don't know when I "turned". Was it Fluttershy staring the dragon down? Flutterguy? Pinkie Pie being... Pinkie Pie? My guess is that it was a gradual process, and by the time I watched Rarity struggle with her "clients'"demands in "Suited for Success", I was shocked to realize that I had become a fan.

As for the Magic side of things, I've been playing since Revised came out in 1994, playing casually and drifting away when Odyssey came out, until Ravnica pulled me back with a vengeance. Interestingly enough, when I first heard about the set, I initially had a similar dismissive reaction as to MLP:FiM ("Guilds? Ok, now they've jumped the shark!") - and here I am now, making Pony cards.

I'm no artist, but I do have experience with game design (I work in the video games industry). My knowledge doesn't translate directly to Magic cards, but some fundamental aspects apply to most or even all game types. That being said, I'm no guru and am always happy to learn something new. It may not come as a surprise that I am an avid reader of Mark Rosewater's "Making Magic" column and generally read more about M:tG than a sane person would or should...

Wallpaper of choice: An abstract Pinkie Pie made by MegaSweet and Ziom's artwork in general.
Favourite cartoon character: Pinkie P - aw heck, I love 'em all!

Good luck! Feel free to write me a note if you have any questions or are looking for links to design articles.

(I'll be in a place with little to no internet at the end of the year though, so things will be a bit quiet on my end until January.)

Here you go (v1.3):
- Print sheets: [link]
- Alternate blank art print sheets for lower toner consumption: [link]
- MSE file: [link]
- Update checklist: [link]

You may want to enable my journal entry updates in your deviantWatch; I'm posting the links to the print sheet packages there with each set update (the links are usually active for a month or so).

Thanks for testing!

Do you have MSE 2.0 installed? You will probably also need some additional templates (e.g. transparent colorless and planeswalkers) to display the cards properly.
Here's a link to the MSE site, should you need an update: [link]

Amitanchan In reply to Sorden [2012-06-12 00:20:26 +0000 UTC]

Ah yes, I was missing the additional templates.
Thank you.

Amitanchan In reply to Sorden [2012-06-11 20:19:38 +0000 UTC]

Oh snapple, the MSE file? That would make mass printing/booster pack testing run a bit more smoothly.

Thank you for making such an awesome set!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sorden In reply to Amitanchan [2012-06-12 00:18:30 +0000 UTC]

Much appreciated.

Note: Some cards have been edited outside of MSE for aesthetic reasons or because the templates for them don't exist (e.g. Pinkie Pie, transforming planeswalkers). Printing them directly from the .mse file may not yield the desired results.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Amitanchan In reply to Sorden [2012-06-12 00:35:20 +0000 UTC]

I shall keep that i mind.

One thing I noticed is that MSE does not seem to have a slot reserved for double faced cards in booster generation; it just mixes them in with single faced cards.

Of course, that is easy to work around so it isn't too big a deal.

MrFahrenheit89 [2012-03-06 00:59:43 +0000 UTC]

Hey just a fellow Brony and MTG player here. I was wondering if I could make a suggestion for a card or two creation for your set?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sorden In reply to MrFahrenheit89 [2012-03-06 01:28:39 +0000 UTC]

Certainly. The set is nearly finished though, and I'm currently filling in the gaps, so there isn't much wriggle room left (only ten cards or so aren't designed yet).

Your suggestions will have the best chance to make it into the set if they are common or uncommon creatures and related to foals, critters or a specific pony type in some way. The uncommons would be the most convenient as red/green or white/black gold cards, and the commons would preferably be mono or hybrid white, red or green creatures.

A final caveat is that if a suggestion has potential for the set, I'll probably still tweak it for a better fit.

If that doesn't discourage you, your help is appreciated.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MrFahrenheit89 In reply to Sorden [2012-03-06 01:55:59 +0000 UTC]

Well it just an idea I had and I don't how to make my own MTG cards, so I thought you could best utilize my two ideas.

Unfortunately, one is a straight up artifact and the other could be a land or land fortification. The artifact is called applecart or just venders cart. It could cost two colors to cast and has the ability "pay one colorless tap and generate a snack token." The land thing is going to do much the same.

I was thinking it could do one of these. first the land "Ponyville market: tap add one colorless mana to you mana pool. and have the ability, tap one colorless mana generate one snack token." Second the land fortification Still call Ponyville market: when ever fortified land is tap generate a snack token for each snack token type you control."

If you can use them cool, tweak it if need be just pass a little credit my way if you do. Is there any thoughts on doing another set in the future? If I have any other idea that fit your guide above I let you know, but It will probly not come in time to make it in.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sorden In reply to MrFahrenheit89 [2012-03-06 20:29:11 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the suggestions! I already have too many artifacts in the set, but the snack Fortification is very appealing. Let's see whether I can cut another artifact card to make some room.

No worries - credit goes where credit is due. Here's a card conceived by another commenter named Drasvin as a reference: [link]

Fortifications are at their most interesting when there is some tension on when/whether to tap the fortified land, so I'm going to tweak the Marketplace in that regard. Unfortunately, the current effect is too powerful (potentially three free snacks netted per trigger, repeatable effect on a hard-to-kill permanent type), so I'm going to have to tinker with that too.
Snacks also have a quirk that you couldn't possibly have known: I'm trying to keep snack generation to one-shots, with repeatable spawning restricted to a few rares/mythics (and a single uncommon). The reason for this is that I want to avoid having snacks be "mana in disguise". Mr. and Mrs. Cake can probably stay the way they are (with the repeatability making them special), but I'm going to change Bloomberg to be less straightforward.

If I can make it work as a common, the Ponyville Market will likely take the place of the Party Cannon and work in a similar fashion, but I'll try to find something closer to your original design. Would the "worst case" be acceptable to you?

PS: Should you be wondering what I mean with "tension" on Fortifications, here's a simple, but elegant example with the only official Fortification to date ([link] ): It raises the question "Do I tap the land now to cast a spell and pump a creature as a sorcery, or do I potentially waste the mana during combat to get the pump as an instant?" If you can spend the mana during combat on an instant or to activate an ability, you get to eat your cake and keep it too.

MrFahrenheit89 In reply to Sorden [2012-03-06 21:40:52 +0000 UTC]

Yes you modifications are acceptable. I figured you would have a better grasp of what you want to happen in this set, so it was expected.

I was pondering that myself last night. so having to limited to one token gernation would bring down it power a bit, and only if you already have a snack persent on the feel. SO basically it would make a copy of the snack but only one at a time, but you most likely have have better idea for that.

If you can get it to work like the party cannon great. I'll leave the fine tuning up to you.

Sorden In reply to MrFahrenheit89 [2012-03-06 23:44:37 +0000 UTC]

Very well - I'll start mulling over the card, then make you a counterproposal. We can ping-pong the card until we are both happy with the results, and add it to the set.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MrFahrenheit89 In reply to Sorden [2012-03-07 02:28:40 +0000 UTC]

Alright.

I was rereading my original proposal for the land type of ponyville market place. I didn't write the ability just right. It suppose to say, "tap one colorless mana tap the land(these will be the symbols for the mana and tap) a generate one snack card." I forgot the add the tap the land. It balances it out more, use it to make a snack at a cost or use it to generate mana.

Just an after thought that might help with the fortification card.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Sorden In reply to MrFahrenheit89 [2012-03-08 20:08:28 +0000 UTC]

All right, I couldn't come up with a conditional, repeatable snack generator that worked to my satisfaction, nor with a common Party Cannon variant that plays nice with the "fortify" reminder text. What I currently have is the following uncommon/rare as a replacement for Gotta Share :

"Whenever fortified land becomes tapped, each player chooses four nonland permanents he or she controls and owns, and a target opponent. That opponent chooses one of those permanents, then gains control of that permanent."

While it doesn't mention snacks explicitly, those are the most likely trade good (at least for the market's controller). I first wanted to exclude creatures to avoid a sinister bent, but I suspect that the card would be too narrow otherwise. Lands would make for a flavorful trade good, but being able to exchange one for a Muffin would increase the chances of stealing more...

With this fortification, the question is less about when you want to trigger it during a turn, but rather about whether you want to do so at all (and if yes, how often), potentially hogging a mana that turn.

What do you think? Is there anything you'd like to change?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MrFahrenheit89 In reply to Sorden [2012-03-08 21:57:54 +0000 UTC]

That was a little over my head but I get the basic idea. It seem like you ironed out all of the kinks to it such that it will fit with set.

Look good.
