I'll be the first to admit that I am abrasive and blunt, but I know myself well enough to know that I am better than most. I am respectful to many people who disagree with me - a casual look on my page will figure that out - but I am NOT respectful to people who are disrespectful to ME. Respect is a two-way street man.
My sentimentality wasn't false. I'd spoken to him before and though we didn't agree on certain things I did honestly think he was a smart guy. I did not expect the simply outlandish response I got, and I was genuinely disheartened by his passive aggressive response. He may not have initially used insults but you can sure as hell bet that his tone and dialogue was condescending. I was simultaneously flabbergasted by his 'logic' and angered by his rudeness.
And on the contrary, I simply went on the page out of idle curiosity. To see if HE'D gotten over it, so I was saddened to see someone I thought of as a friend talking shit behind my back, especially since I'd acknowledged that you were right before.
Me actively opening a dialogue with him was a rarity. Usually my abrasive comments are responses to things other people say to me. Usually stuff I find bigoted and hateful, and you know why I respond back like that? Because I fucking CARE. I HATE bigotry and prejudice in all its forms and in the past I've been unafraid to call people out on such things. I grew up a geek when such a thing was largely ostracised so I've always had sympathies for people who are put down some form. Ironic considering how toxic geek culture is nowadays.
I am abrasive and sometimes an outright dick, but I'm not a bully. In fact we both know people who are probably more abrasive and blunt than I am. No, I just happen to say things YOU don't like, like when I criticised GamerGate. You're entitled to your opinions of course and I never badgered you about it, but if I did give you shit back then it's because (in my opinion) you said something problematic.
I am sorry if anything I've said in the past has upset you. I will be the first to admit that I can be a dick, but I do it because I am disgusted by that bigotry I see in some peoples comments, like I did in Thaeons. You're entitled to hate me but I have no hatred towards you. And don't worry, I planning to write a journal soon explaining why I've realised that fighting against the darker side of geek culture is a waste of time.

I don't hate you. If I did I wouldn't have been so nervous all day that you'd attack me for (what I felt was) standing up for myself and Thaeon. Seeing your response, I'd like to backtrack my "bully" statement and apologize for not being up front. I misjudged you, thus failing to really live up to my own words.
It may come as a surprise, but I can't stand bigotry too. I've had to grow up surrounded by a conservative family and apathetic nihilist friends. My dad is a cartoon character of a Republican with four guns and a Trump banner plastered to his fridge. The internet is, ironically, where I come to feel less lonely and find people who agree my liberal mindset. Problematic as it is, tumblr feels like home away from home.
And you know what else is ironic? It's this same anger towards injustice that gets me infuriated when I see someone labeled a bigot or "toxic" when they too are just standing up for what they feel is right (this mindset is aimed mostly towards geek culture, I will admit). What upsets me more than anything is that you were quick to demonize Thaeon and then block him, thus giving him no chance to defend himself. It doesn't make you look like the better man, it makes you look ignorant and stubborn. If you are truly right and he's wrong, who do you think people are going to see as the more reasonable?
Overall, this is a good example as to why I have a hard time with SJWs in general. Good intentions, but the way they interpret others words and attack them for it unintentionally makes them come off as bullies when they aren't.

Woof, that's definitely a difficult home situation to be in. You genuinely have my sympathies there.
I appreciate that you're standing up for your friend here and you don't think he did anything wrong. I can understand why my actions must seem dickish...but I don't throw words like 'toxic' and 'bigoted' around loosely. I considered his opinions to be VERY problematic and part of a wider issue of toxic geek culture that is rife with sexism, racism and other forms of bigotry. I do feel like his attitudes and beliefs are part of that growing toxicity within geek culture, something I've talked about in my recent journal. You're free to disagree but I was genuinely disgusted by his views, and while I unblocked him the first time out of fairness, my recent block I genuinely I don't regret.
I haven't blocked him a second time to silence him, but because I NEED to block people like him out of my life, frankly. I've decided that I personally need to embody a more positive representation of geekiness, and part of that is ignoring people like him. I don't really care if that doesn't make me the better man or if it makes me less reasonable. For my sanity I need his INsanity cut out of my life.
And simply put if that makes me an 'SJW' then so be it. I know he's your friend, but I'm being genuine when I say that I'd rather be an SJW than anything like what he was. I said what I said because I believe what he was saying was horrible, but it's not something I'm gonna bother doing again.

Personally, I don't see his views the same way you do, but that's all opinion. Plus I've been trying to avoid the Ghostbusters controversy in general, so I can't really have an opinion anyway.
If blocking him is really what will make you happier, then by all means go ahead. Just don't mock him for doing the same.
It's alright to be an SJW. Hell, I find it flattering when my IRL friends use it as a derogatory term. I can't control what you consider disgusting or toxic, but you shouldn't let yourself become Don Quixote chasing windmills either.

It's more for my own sanity. I won't mock him - I've kept his name out of my recent journal - and I won't even go on his page. It was only on a whim I went on it today, but now I understand to just ignore him.
To be honest I don't really take the term 'SJW' seriously. It's a dumb, petty term honestly, and I think it's lost so much of its meaning, especially if games like Undertale can be just labelled as 'SJW games' because they're unconventional.

Frankly, it's not my family that irritates me, as I gave up on them years ago. It's my tumblr-hating, jaded IRL friends that cause me the most grief. They've conformed to a cynical worldview of "everybody sucks, so why care", calling it "realism." Worse, they look at my idealistic nature as naivete and seem to be waiting for me to finally "get it."
Speaking of Undertale, I made a journal months ago regarding my concern over how certain characters are treated by fans, and would love to hear your opinion on it. Especially in regards to the comments I got.
