Thanks man, my work needs improvement (this is probabally my first serious organic model) but still, itll get better. I fav'd you and mariolka as your work is something that interests me, thanks :>

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mmarti In reply to Skillgannon [2004-08-25 08:17:28 +0000 UTC]

Ofcourse it'll get better... What kind of modeling are you using there?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

mmarti In reply to mmarti [2004-08-26 12:47:04 +0000 UTC]

Well, that's OK that you remodeled nose 4 times... that's part of the normal workflow

What kind of modeling I use? Usually box-modeling or sub-division.. sometimes I make very rough spline cage and then start adding details as necessary, it all depends on the model I'm working on... sometimes I use only splines (simple models).

Btw, you sould upload shaded model renderings too, it helps to undertand the structure of the model...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Skillgannon In reply to mmarti [2004-08-26 23:09:12 +0000 UTC]

might actually do that, will upload 2 in my scraps i think, one faceted, one normal (no lighting, just a one color base).

Finding a fewq problems with spline modelling, but the details I can get quickly is awesome. To bad its near impossible when converted to poly mode to keep it a low poly count.

Basically its the type of model that determines the workflow for you, so its not locked in. Cool

mmarti In reply to Skillgannon [2004-08-26 23:19:21 +0000 UTC]

I think you should really try box-modeling... atleast you don't have to worry about wether max will cover model with surface... just modeling and enjoying it...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Skillgannon In reply to mmarti [2004-08-27 06:47:29 +0000 UTC]

With standard (large box, cut, refine, cut refine blah blah blah) box head modelling i got bored and bogged down really easily, but your right, having to meet surface constraints is a bitch, especially when you make one small change and you lose large segments. If youve ever read the Joan of Arc tutorial (its on 3dtotal.com somewhere), he uses a different style of box modelling to that, which makes sence. But at the moment i relaly just want to get this model done!!!!!!!!!! And modelling a nose will be difficult, no matter style i use i guess . Will try and remember to post those renders, i did them but havent had time to upload them yet

mmarti In reply to Skillgannon [2004-08-27 07:26:00 +0000 UTC]

Box-modeling is just a name for modeling technique... actually, I never model things from a box - too much planning ahead, instead I model poly by poly, usually starting with an eye of a model and then building other parts... for me makes sense...

Skillgannon In reply to mmarti [2004-08-27 13:00:54 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I actually modelled the ear for this (not visible at the moment) through box modelling like that. Unfortunatly i need to polish my skills to go onto a full head with it, to get it looks good i had about as many polys in one ear as the entire head :@

Ah well, got the weekend to work on it and have to finish the entire model, including getting rupske to skin it (my photoshop is dead), pose it, and print it for a scholarship thingie. AIYARRGGGHHHHH

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mmarti In reply to Skillgannon [2004-08-27 19:11:39 +0000 UTC]

Ah, so you do use boxmodeling too.. that's wierd that you got so many polys there... gotta see it. You should upload it, I'd like to see it too...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Skillgannon In reply to mmarti [2004-08-28 00:25:12 +0000 UTC]

The ears missing a few peices (:%) but ill still upload it. Ive now (officially) got way to much stuff that has to be odne this weekend and not enough time....and what do i do, Procrastinate

I think it may have something to do with Meshsmooth It:2 or 3 :>

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mmarti In reply to Skillgannon [2004-08-28 09:31:10 +0000 UTC]

Well, I hope you'll get all the things done...

Meshsmooth 3 is too much, I think... iterations 2 should be enough in most cases...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Skillgannon In reply to mmarti [2004-08-29 10:36:58 +0000 UTC]

yeah, i ramped it down to 2, 3 was just stupid (i dont think my computer has enough ram to even think of handling that level of polys in such a small area), but the body is nearly finished. Not doing what i originally planed due to time constraints, but hey.....and also, sorry about not uploading those lightly textured ones you wanted to see, and saying i would, theyll go up sometime soon. hopefully. maybe tonight, depends
