I can see my membership to another group on my main page, but I still can't see anything about eye-of-terror. I have to either search for it or otherwise get a link to it.

Where would I see whether I had the "groups" gadget installed?

the edit button is on the top of your home page, to the right. You have to add that gadget to have show membership in all your gropus. On my main page, only Eye of Terror is shown on the top (becuase of my status in it), but i had to install that gadget to be shown somewhere below so that all groups can be seen
