You're very welcome! Saw your engine project on the SIF forums and really like what you're doing there! Really fascinating stuff!

Thank you. Will get more interesting as I reach the mechanical parts. Hoping that will be within the next few months.

The wheels are to be dropped out of the frames as soon as so I can get them gone for tyre turning. Also the motion is at home. I am going to start making bushes for and pins for.
I haven't many more pictures to stick up now. It is all good though. Keeping me busy.

Much appreciate the watch. Do keep checking back for status updates and pictures and hope it remains interesting.

Oh, now I'm sure you already know much about steam engines, but the having a real engine in the building progress and having to sort out all the problems that come with that must be a great experience.
So the boiler is the "only" (while most important) thing missing, correct?
And I will come back and have a look at the progress!

BritishGypsum4 In reply to ScotNick [2018-01-31 14:27:03 +0000 UTC]

There is a boiler that came with it but to be quite honest it is well and truly past its best hence why the boiler off mine is now on a sister engine. It wasn't as old and not so worn!
The one I have is probably about 1930s build so it would have replaced the one originally on the sister loco. It has had many repairs during its life span and when my friend, a boilersmith, had a look at it he recognised the types of repair work done on it. He was under the impression that to get it right would cost a huge amount for potentially something that could always cause trouble later on.

Recommendation was to scrap and start from new. That way we know the metal is good, it has been hardly stressed at all and it would ultimately cost less in the long run. As we are doing the boiler ourselves then we can cut the costs even further rather than subbing it out. Takes longer but I am not in too much of a rush. I'd like it right first time and with a happy boiler inspector (and me as well!) than something that needs remedial work.

The rest of it has been a case of finding missing parts when and where I can and also doing as much when I can. Having the garage has helped as it has meant I could bring much of it home....Still need to collect the cab!

Thanks for the flattering
Well, I guess my models are too complex for Lego to produce, but thanks
Also there probably isn't enough demand, but working for Lego would be nice, but I'm not sure I could do it for my whole life.

Hello Nick,

I'm 20 years old, live in the northern part of the state of Maine in the United States, and have been a big fan of Legos all my life.

I recently saw your Lego GWR Class 14xx steam engine project on the Lego Ideas website, and I must say that it's very rich in elemental activity and nostalgia, and it heavily reminds me of the character of Oliver from "Thomas the Tank Engine." Sorry the project never reached its maximum potential of 10,000 supporters.

I'm currently planning on expanding upon a Lego train layout I have in my basement, and I thought of including personal duplicates of some of your trains (including, and aside from, the Class 14xx) on it due to their alluring design.

If you you're able to, please e-mail me copies of LDD files of the following models:

- GWR Class 14xx
- GWR Autocoach
- The rolling stock from the picture of the Class 14xx as the Titfield Thunderbolt
- The plank wagon, tank cars and brake vans from your revised rolling stock set
- The model of Spencer, the LNER Mallard A4 locomotive from
Thomas the Tank Engine
- The model of Duck from Thomas

Thanks for your time, and I look forward to hearing back from you.

Alex Vaillancourt
