You are welcome!! Love your work so much!
She is my daughter in the age around 2, I love the sculpture very much, I might make her into a moving arms doll but not as good as yours. ^^

Rosen-Garden In reply to DuyNguyen666 [2014-12-31 03:39:03 +0000 UTC]
Never tried this type of polymer clay but you can try ^ ^
Polymer clay bjd dolls are much more fragile (than resin or porcelain) but if baked properly they still can be played with. Though polymer bjd dolls are better as a decorative objects placed on shelf
Good luck! ^ ^

You mean the prototype? (the gray one which was then casted in resin?) Well, since I didn't care about color and durability of clay back then, I used ordinary ProSculpt and mix of ProSculpt + Bozzi Pele Clara clay for palms and feet (the mix with Bozzi is stronger).
If you are making small, very small bjd, then for face I recommend ProSculpt (great for sculpting small details). You can sculpt, then bake and then add fresh clay and bake again etc.
Today, for body I'd use Super Sculpey Firm (gray). It's way stronger than ProSculpt, really great for sculpting small details but! If you bake something small, you may find it hard to add fresh clay to baked one. It's not impossible, just harder than in ProSculpt : )
If you want to make small polymer bjd (not as a prototype, but actual doll) then I recommend to mix ProSculpt and Bozzi Pele Clara. ProSculpt is easy to work with, but the clay is not very strong. Bozzi is hard to work with but is verrrry strong after proper baking. If you mix those two clays then it becomes pretty easy to work with (just like with ProSculpt) yet it becomes much stronger (thanks to Bozzi) ^ ^
Anyway, polymer clay BJD doll is much more fragile than resin or porcelain doll. So it's o.k. to pose it and play with it from time to time, but polymer bjd doll is more of a decorative object : )
Happy New Year! ^ ^

Love your dolls. Great work. would love to know how you do them if you dont mind. I make dolls myself but I still dont know how to do the double joint so that they can bend more realisticly and for the elbows too. Other than that I think mine come out okay for the most part.

may i ask one question ^^, how can you polish detail like fingers, lips, eyelid,......?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Rosen-Garden In reply to DuyNguyen666 [2014-09-02 12:14:43 +0000 UTC]
Well, it depends. In 1/12 scale it's hard to polish such tiny parts of a doll. If I'm working on stationary polymer fairy then I use Flexible Silicone Shapers and I'm trying to make those parts as smooth as I can. I'm not polishing it anymore after baking.
The same goes for miniature bjd tiny parts (fingers, lips) but additionally I'm covering the whole doll with gray car primer. It makes the surface of the doll much smoother. But it works only with prototypes : )

and i have a problem that i can't maintain the polymer clean, it alway have many dust stick on it even i've been used glove. Is there anyway to remove the dust or keep the polymer alway clean when sculpting?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Rosen-Garden In reply to DuyNguyen666 [2014-09-03 11:43:16 +0000 UTC]
Well, it depends on polymer too. Some tends to attract lots of dust and some are less sticky and there is less dust on the surface of the polymer when you work.
I work with ProSculpt and Super Sculpey. Both of them attract dust but not so badly as Fimo Puppen.
Also I work in gloves, on piece of glass. You can glue a simple piece of glass (like from big photo frame) on to your table with tapes. I clean my glass with alcohol and paper towels (ordinary cloth and water will leave some dust).
Some people work only in white clothes too : )
Dust and moonies are the bigest enemies when we work with polymer clay ^ ^'

thanks you so much, may i ask another question, please, ^^ how can you apply car primer ?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Rosen-Garden In reply to DuyNguyen666 [2014-09-03 11:35:41 +0000 UTC]
Sooo, I use gray car primer from Motip : )
First I polish what I can and then, on clean surface I apply car primer. You have to wait for it to dry very well and then you can sand it again. When you sand primed surface you will see all irregularities. So after correcting it you can spray it with primer again. And again and again until everything is smooth.
Since I work with polymer clay, I try to finish my work and polish it verrrrrry well before applying primer. Because I can't put primed work into the oven again. I'll have to use some air drying material to repair all mistakes. Also, if you polish very well the surface of polymer clay work then you can apply like one or two layers of primer without sanding primed surface afterward. Try to look on google for something like: "primer bjd" and you will see lots of pictures with gray bjd dolls which were primed with car primers or hobby primers ^ ^

is this the car primer that you used?
i having seen some clip of how to apply car primer, i see it have a matte finish, i want to have gloss finish like your BJD , does this primer have gloss finish or i have to polish it, and how can i polish small detail if i have to do that?

Rosen-Garden In reply to DuyNguyen666 [2014-09-07 17:04:18 +0000 UTC]
Hi!
Hmm not sure about this "plastic". I think it's not this. I used ordinary Motip Gray Car Primer. In my country it looks different but generally it should look like this: www.motipdupli.de/uploads/pics…
And yes, I polished my doll after applying primer. It took me many, many hours since the doll is very small. I used sandpaper (wet). When sandpaper is wet it is easier to polish.
Actually, it's not very good for a doll to be extra polished, shiny. I asked my casting factory to make my prototype mate. I didn't want my doll to look too shiny cause it will resemble plastic which looks... well, cheap ^ ^'
So good luck ^ ^

I was wondering if you could tell me how long does it take for you to make a complete doll and have you ever tried to make something else from polymer clay? Also, was it hard for you to find the materials and where do you find an inspiration?
I desperately want to continue making miniatures but I just don't have any ideas.
Looking forward to your answer ♥and thanks

Hmm... If I remember correctly, to make a stationary polymer clay fairy it usually took me about one month. But I was studying back then and there was not enough time for sculpting ^ - ^'
Polymer clay ball jointed doll took me few months.
And prototype of ball jointed doll (polymer clay too) for resin version took me almost one year. To make a doll is not a problem. Personally, I spend more time sanding and making the doll smooth, than anything else.
For example, lately I made big head Rui and it took me 2 days, but sanding, correcting etc is taking longer ^ - ^'
Something else from polymer clay? Hmm I made once very detailed tree trunk and I liked it very much, but me nephew made a huge hole in the most visible place (and I took my eyes off of him only for a minute, I swear )
But my main subject are dolls, so mainly I make dolls from polymer clay : )
And inspiration... hmm... Personally, I love realism verrry much. But I also like beauty and cuteness. So I try to make my dolls real looking but with slightly bigger eyes, with no wrinkles on face etc.
Try to look at other people creations. At the beginning, try to copy (for yourself only and for practice). After some time you should be able to find your own style ^ - ^.
About inspiration again. At the beginning I liked miniatures more, but right now I fell in love with big ball jointed doll boys. So I abandoned miniatures. I simply do what I want to do : )
Oh and materials.
First I tried ordinary Fimo, then Fimo Puppen but I hated Fimo Puppen verrrry much. Then I tried ProSculpt and I fell in love with it. ProSculpt can be found on eBay
It's hard to recommend you something for inspiration... For me it comes suddenly. I would have never thought that I'll be making movable dolls, for example. And look now. I totally love bjd dolls ^ - ^
