And do you also like Mayan stuff?

most of them, yeah, but mayan were really hard to understand. They were more "advanced" on their ways than most of mesoamericans, but that too make them more complicated... and their writings were the most destroyed by catholics... just the poorest mayans kept their language, but not their writting...
(even my niece knows a few of mayan, her babysitter taught her a little... i just know loose words)

Ancient History:
Remember the nomad tribes at north? Aztecs used to be one of them: aggresive, warmonger and blood thirsty tribes. They made an "exodus" from "Aztlán", a kind of mithic land. The aztec were not completely nomads, they were in the middle, and after a long dry season, they decided to migrate, (some researchers think they made the mistake of growing their population beyond sustaining) and walk to south, into Anáhuac Valley.
that was about 200, 300 years, more or less, before the spanish invasion. When they enter Anáhuac, a city was reigning over most of the cities in the area, Tula, named after Tollan, an older city already abandoned (and now known as Teotihuacan).
At that time, mayan federation was decaying, their literally fat aristocracy was overexploiting the jungle, the food began to scarce, and famine fall over the cities. That's why mayans made more and more human sacrifices, not just by faith, but to take down the overpopulation... Most of mid and upperclass mayans fled to Tula to prevent being killed by the mayan people as happens with some governors and priests.
So, Tula was at that time the "big city", and Aztecs came there as pariahs, beggers... and stayed there working and learning, civilizing themselves, now working as builders and peasants, then working as soldiers and stuff.
One day, the big city began to fall: as any city growing without control, more and more "barbarians" came watching for food or job, and being more than the offer, they sacked the city. The upper class, of course, ran away, but the soldiers, the middle class, kept their stand, i mean, they were "nomads" but that was the first civilization they knew, so they decided to defend it. As soldiers, they defended the old "warriors" temple, where Huitzilopochtli was patron god, and adopt him. They won but the city was already dead, so walked again to the south, but now, they walked with a god, with a name and knowledge.
So, when they come to the actual Mexico City area, the place was already populated by the Culhuas, the Tecpanecs, the Tlacopans and others. The tecpanecs, the stronges, allow aztecs to settle on a little island in the Texcoco Lake. That place was arid, rocky and full of rattle snakes and poisonous critters. Tecpanecs hoped aztecs die there.
But about three monts after the settling autorization, tecpanecs sent scouts to see how the aztecs were, and the scouts couldn't believe it: the aztecs ate all the snakes, the "jumiles", little bloodsucking bugs, were a new dish on menu, even the mosquito eggs (a rare kind of caviar). And as the land was arid and hard, aztecs builded semi sunked wood platforms called "chinampas", where the vegetables and grains grow even better than inlands.
The new city of México-Tenochtitlan had born... and all the other politic powers in the area tried to take them, well aware of their military proficiency. at last, the Texcoco senate and the Tlacopan council convince the aztecs to stand by their side against the tecpanecs, who were growing too much and threat the autonomy of the other cities...
And with the Triple Alliance, the aztecs took the power as the biggest military. using that power, eventually took the political power too, and the "Tlatoani", the one who speaks for all, became "Uei Tlatoani", the "great" tlatoani...
and then bad stuff happens. The aztecs became cruel, as any empire...
In fact, most of indians, when spaniards came to México, saw the chance to take off the aztec power, but well, they realized too late that spaniards were not saviors nor gods... when the Holy War of Mixton was called, spaniards were already founding citys and colonies all around country...

Many Thanks.
I also have question about Mexico.
I found some Mexican Art with Don Quixote. : blog.ggtour.or.kr/files/2011/1…
What's the relationship between Don Quixote and Mexico?
And many American describe mexico as this :
www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uAdC3…
www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNExs2…
The country with serious drug, mafia, crime problem.
How do you and Mexican people think about them?

About Don Quixote and stuff, it's just an "ideal", the time when that book was writed, was the same time when the spanish empire was at its max level, and The Quixote toke all the "glorious ideas" and bring them down, remembering all people that even while Spain was a world power, there was a lot os poverty, of moral decadence and a lot of wrong doings. Actually, the Quixote (Don means "sir" on its knightley sense) it's an ideal for all those who fight the lost causes, but keep fighting to the end.
About the drug stuff, sadly, México it's having a bad age... but this is happening because of two things:
1.- individualism overrated: The TV shows and politicians had keep saying the last 30 years that "success" and "winning" comes from money and appearance. And worst, "you can do anything while keeping your family well", so, even if you kill people, "keep your sons at a good school, have a nice car and go to church sundays" and everything is ok
i know this sounds stupid, but that's the actual mexican thinking of most of population, because that's what TV tell them. Here, TV is some kind of god, thanks to TV we have elected the most stupid and ignorant president of all history (and that's a lot, looking some of our XIX century presidents).
Here, we have a sad sad sad proverb: El que no transa no avanza: "he who don't cheat, don't win"
That's a way of life, thanks to that way of thinking, we have corruption from the very birth to the tomb. And all of those who don't live like that, are stupid, losers, poor bastards and more...
that take us to the second reason:
2.- cowardice: thanks to the "cheating" thinking, most of people grows thinking that they are useless, impotent, helpless and weak, and so, when somebody abuse them, they just cry, but don't defend themselves... so, any idiot with a gun comes and steal your money and rapes your daughters, and you just say "thanks for not killing me"...
no... i'm not overstating... with the drug cartels that became a daily reality. That's why since the last year some citizens at Michoacan and Guerrero armed themselves and begun to make the work that police don't do.
but that's another story... the videos are a cartoon, but an accurate cartoon of how the thing were at frontier just 2 years ago. and there are yet a lot of places like that...

Thanks to you I can understand why Don Quixote related to Mexico.
Individualists-Egoists are always problem.
They eat all world here and there!
I was surprised about same happened here in my country.
As one guy pointed out : "individualism overrated" and "wealth and fame of individual people are main agenda of my nation."
At the same time, also many stupid bastards (They insist themselves as 'senior of life') visit everywhere and said :
"Get Hope and Keep Going, so you can earn much money!"
Fortunately, People of my nation didn't do drug or despaired.
But people started survive life (not live life) and people get more up tight and up tight!
Maybe, These are happen because of absence of 'Great Backbone'.
Yes, the 'Great Backbone' can hold everyone's attention.
Example, These day, people do not have to rebuild war-torn nation or fight with certain ideology.
So, resultingly, people more concentrate at individualism stuff.
(Yes, 'Great Backbone' gave us free, but this gave us individualism and mammonism.)
But as the one guy said : "(Both are) still beautiful country.".
I got another question.
Sorry for out of topic question again.
I also interested in cooking.
I usually cook Eastern European Dish.
But I am going to make Mexican Taco to thanks god and tell Mexican Culture to my ignorant comrades.
(I had to finish a lot of test and homework at last week,
And I prey them give me strength, wisdom and courage. And they answered.)
I'm very confused, there are so many variations and unreliable description about taco.
Can you tell me about Mexican taco?
Is taco essential or daily food to Mexican people?
(like preserved vegetables and soups made with fermented paste are essential or daily food to Asians.)
(I also got recept : www.youtube.com/watch?v=He-Xtw…
P.S.
why this song is so papular? → www.youtube.com/watch?v=TY3F5A…
Because of the movie?
P.S.
Sorry for my bad English.

ok, first of all, let's talk about "tortilla".
The one and only "tortilla" it's made it of cornmeal, but not just is milled corn, you must cook the raw corn with limestone to make "nixtamal", and then, once milled, you can make tortillas.
Tortilla is thin, thinner than the peeta bread, thinner than the salted cookies. just about 3 milimeters.
Tortilla it's the base, not for the mexican cuisine, but the whole feeding. In example, if we serve a nice fat bowl of chicken soup, we eat it with a tortilla (making it roll in our hands) and sometimes, with chili on that tortilla.
if we eat beans or scrambled eggs, we go further, we use the tortilla as spoon.
Af you could see, that makes you eat more than the food itself, and that's why it's so basic for us. México have a financial crisis almost every 4 years, so, when you have no money to buy enough food, you always can fill with tortillas.
and that make us diabetic too but that's another story
So, the thin tortilla is the real one. Is soft, tasty, just add some salt on one of them and it's pretty nice. and you can make a taco with almost anything. scrambled eggs, chili eggs, beans, meat, chicken, fish (those just at beach) cheese (just white cheese, we call them "quesadillas") and a long etc.
the "tacos" that americans believe as tacos are what we call "crispie tacos" or "tacos dorados" (we call "dorar" to the deep frying), a toasted bended crunchy tortilla with meat, lettuce, tomato and cream.
that's not mexican. In fact, it was invented at the mexican-USA frontier, with toasted tortillas because at USA you cant find real fresh tortillas.
the same with "burritos", the thing that sell at "Taco Bell". it's like common tacos with food, but you use flour tortillas instead of real tortillas. you put some mayonaisse and a beans base (brown beans, cause americans don't like black beans). with the food you want.
The common "taco" right now at México are just tacos as i said at beginning, mostly of meat, there are different kinds of meat. chorizo, (a mixture of grinded pork and chili), Cecina, (salty beef), pastor, (a spiced meat invented by, funny, a turk guy at begining of XX century) and common beef steak. These are the common types, solded by millions every night with onion, cilantro (i don't know the english name) and big doses of really hot sauce, and there is the trick of every restaurant, some use a kind of sauce, some other. They too make "stuffed chilis", big jalapeño chilis stuffed with cheese and "toreados", you just fry a little the chile. if you fry it too much, it lose it's level of "hot". if you don't fry it enough, it taste like grass. if you fry it the perfect time, you will make cry the manliest man.
There is too the barbecue (head and shoulders of cow) sesos (brains) eyes, tongue, tripita (intestines) and even criadillas with pistola (testicles and penis).
and, of course, the food tacos, that are most solded at morning along with the barbecue tacos.
LOL i always write a lot.
