You have some of the most beautiful work I've seen, amazing color schemes, you bring the worlds to life but keep them so astoundingly vivid and rich with color.
I was reading the advice you gave in the comment below and I thank you for that, but I have a question of my own if it's not a bother: for your paintings, specifically the Sentinel works, how did you come up with the colors? Was it pure imagination or did you use photograph studies? I usually have to consult other artist's work to get ideas for color, I've used your works a bit, but can't seem to be able to create colors schemes that flow quite as well.

Sorry for the very late answer (I spend very few time on deviant now).
Actually I use everything that I find interesting in colors, photographs, other paintings (traditionnal or digital) as a reference when I'm working. It's rare for me to do all a painting without any source of inspiration, (but I try increasingly to do it for exercising my visions of colors).

So yes I think it's a good way to try new moods and to develop your skills ! But it's important to have a precise idea of what kind of color palette you want to obtain. Imagine a very small palette (like 3 principals colors) and try to know what each tone is here for.
After that you can search for photographs (for understanding what light create in precise condition for exemple), painting (for a transformed vision of reality), etc. to help you !

So study is a big thing for me...how to study correctly making progress?
Understanding Value, Form, ...
Inspiration...and design. I study communication and design and feel lost in the way what I am doing and what art school teaches.
I guess I kill your time sry for that.

Don't worry
So you're in a art school ?
Having a professor who can correct your work is by far the best way to learn. But you can do some exercices that are interesting for everyone, even the most experienced artists :

- First of all, make quick sketches of everything (people, environment, vehicles, plants, objects...), with different techniques (pencil, charcoal, water color...). Make sure you do it quickly, don't waste time on constructing precisely the things you draw, it will be for a next time. The goal is to relax your hand, and multiply the subjects of study. Then you can draw whole scenes.

- If you can (and if your school don't offer it), do nude lessons. It's the most effective way to learn the human morphology, the posings, the movement and the face. If you can't find nude lessons in your town/city, there is some websites that offer photos, with (the most important) limited time to draw it. The ideal is to alternate quick and long model poses (1mn, 3mn, 5mn, and max 30mn for the moment). And forgot the rubber !

- Work on basic perpective exercices. With for the begining one or two vanishing points, try to integrate cubes, pyramids, and after simples objects. Thereafter you can work with multiples vanishing points on the skyline, or anywhere else.

- You can also do photos stydies. If you work on photoshop make sure to not use color picking ! Choose photos with specific difficulties (smoke, texture, backlights, atmospheric perspective, animal, reflections,...). And use only one simple brush.

- Recopy drawins and paintings of artists you like ! It's motivating and useful. For me I often study Gustave Doré's engravings, Arnold Bocklin's paintings, and also James Gurney, Sergio Toppi, Moebius, Francois Schuiten...

For conclusion, favors fast and instinctive sketches in opposite to long paintings for the first time. Varies the exercices and the subjetcs. And one thing very important : always show your work to peoples, to have feedbacks on it ! It's the only way to progress, because otherwise you risk to remain blocked into one drawing style and you will keep making the same mistakes.
There is many books of drawing, but be careful with them, it's frequently bad or too punctilious on the details. I can recommend you one exellent book of morphology : "Morpho" By Michel Lauricella (he was my nude professor at school).
You can also show me your future works if you want, I'll can give you my opinion on it

Draws as much as possible, often changes subjects and exercise, and asks for opinions on it ! It's in my opinion the basic for all artists !

After a look at your gallery, I think you've got very good elements !

- For me your skills are the strength of your contrasts (which progresses since your first works), and the diversity of your subjects (characters, nudes, lights, dynamic compositions). Your drawings are impacting by their graphic processing, you don't hesitate to make strong shadows, supported features and try various graphics !

- On the other hand it create a general feeling of heaviness, and I think your drawings deserve to be softer at specific points : the colors (it would be more pleasant to stare at it if you put some light colors, a little bit desaturate). To add rythm to your tones.
Also you need (like everyone) to structure more your volumes (in the morphology, the environments, etc). Actually, in a painting, you need to understand all the volumes you create, even in the background and even if it's quite simple. It will make a clear image, and you will much better master the different elements, for better know why you do this texture here, the meaning of this light, this color,...

It's just my opinion ! You have a great drawing start, with strong intentions, but you need to alleviate a little your work, and structure the whole. Congratulations for your drawings, and good luck for the futur !
Work and time do everything !

Thx for the solid feedback. I will take your advice seriously and feel like I do have to work harder. Your work is inspiration and I do not get it, how to be as creative as you are ?! Maybe, if you find time, you have some ''tools'' to learn about generating ideas. Thx anyway. You are master chief.

Reicheran In reply to IncognitusId [2017-06-06 13:33:52 +0000 UTC]

Thank you man ! But it's quite difficult to explain how to get ideas, it's a very personal way.
You can try to understand what you really like in other paintings, films, books... and extract it for yourself. Or take a little notbook everytime with you to write immediately some feelings, colors, situations, ideas you live everyday, and later you can put it in a drawing. Also you can start from a very simple situation (a character, a costume, a light, vehicle, scene...) and try to imagine how to develop a world of it, logically, with some other coherent elements...

Travel into your own ideas, try to understand them, and the inspiration will come !
