I agree with you; these are more likely Chinese than Japanese. Wall hangings like these were made popular in the Ming Dynasty and often have meaning of wish fulfillment. The knots are so beautiful and intricate!

That's really cool! wish fulfillment, huh.. that's amazing. and yea, the knots are so complex, and the metal part looks hand carved. i'm so glad i have them now i'm trying to find out what the chinese characters on them mean.. wouldn't happen to know that would you?
