β’ REALISM: A lot of stories tend to seem shallow and as I elaborate in this guide more, Iβm sure youβll see why. People tend to like to throw something together without putting the actual depth into it to make it great. This has nothing to do with rushing or time spent on the story at allβit has to do with peopleβs writing styles at the most basic level. Be aware of the phrases youβre using and what they imply. Donβt just settle for a phrase thatβs been used before a million times. Add your own unique spin on it. If youβre trying to show the different moods of your story, use words in such a way that they make the reader think a bit more and imply deeper messages.
β’ LITTLE THINGS: Small unique details regarding your setting or characters or their emotions will definitely strike the reader in some way, usually in a good way. For example if I say, in the hospital, βWenn is wearing an orange

Street Speed: Chapter 21Chapter 21- War Machine
Sonic and everyone else cleared the stairs as a monstrous robot stooped underneath the opposite door to the room and jumped down to the warehouse below with Amy in its hands. Cream called for Vanilla. βMom! Mom!β Tails shielded her as Robotnik blocked the door with more robots. He raised his pistol and fired at the first person at the bottom of the stairs: Sonic.
Knuckles pushed the hedgehog out of the way and the bullet buried itself in his arm. He roared, falling aside, and Rouge whipped out her pistol, all her foul insults for Robotnik lost amidst gunfire. The room erupted with lasers and bullets and Tails, Shade, and Sonic dragged Knuckles and Vanilla behind a table. Rouge covered them, driving Robotnik and the robots down the stairs.
βHey, hey,β Sonic said, propping Knuckles up. βYou okay?β
βSwell,β he said, gritting his teeth. βWhat do you think?β
