Do you have any tips or advice in painting digitally? I've been trying some different techniques. also any tips or advice with colors are helpful! I tend to make skin colors very muddy when i'm not careful

My biggest and most important slice of advice would just be to practice! Like anything else, technique will be developed as you go along!

What sort of techniques have you been trying? Maybe I can give you some more specific advice on those, which might be more helpful than just rattling off stuff on this end!

Colors are a very tough subject, and I think I too have a lot to learn as well. Important things to remember when applying colors are:
1.) Contrast - the vary degrees of light and dark in your image.
2.) Saturation - the intensity of your color
3.) Balance - Keeping in mind that you don't use "too much" of any of the two above listed things. 

Painting, just like drawing, has a ton of it's own techniques and rules. It is also very much learned!
