I would say it takes me a few hours, on average, to do a drawing. I used to finish drawings in one sitting, but lately I've taken to working on them off and on over time. So it's hard to know how much time it takes exactly, but generally speaking I'm a slow worker.

I have just been inspired so much by your portraits. I wish I had as good a technique as you do. Do you have any tips for an artist-in-training?

Aw, thank you. I'm completely self-taught, so whatever technique I have is just from practice over the years, and learning by trial and error.
I guess my advice is to be really observant when looking at what you want to draw -- notice the basic lines of the features and also color, light, and shadow. Spend some time really looking at how these things combine to create the shapes before you start to draw. Whether you're doing black and white or color, start with the lightest shade and layer on darker shades to create a 3-D effect. Also practice varying the pressure you use with your hand to achieve different stroke effects. I generally use a light hand at first and gradually press harder to darken lines. That helps to create realism.

So your work is absolutely GORGEOUS. Have you ever considered doing some sort of tutorials, particularly for colored pencil work? I'd love to see a step by step bit for your colored pencil process.

Your drawings are amazing! And I love it that you don't use digital methods for them. ( I think it's harder to draw a great picture without digital help 'cause you can't always cover up mistakes but have to do it all over again. That'y why I appreciate traditional art more than digital. And I apreciate your pictures very much!

Me, too, but I think art becomes less personal because of digital methods. Of course, I think everyone who uses it puts their heart in their work, too. But I think more of the artist's heart is visible in a picture that is drawn or painted by hand.
I hope nobody who uses digital methods for art will be angry with me for that, I gotta say I can't use anything but Paint in that way and I guess I couldn't come out with any good result if I tried digital art. But I think I won't put any effort in learning it, I'd rather improve my traditional art skills.
